^^^^ I have their EP Young Mountain (2005); I think this is their only release (I'm sure someone will correct me if it isn't).

The album works very much on the deliacy of the accentuations, focusing more highly on dexterity rather than raw energy. Though this is not a negative conitation. Very moody and beautiful album, a familiar melancholy happy. while they don't anything out of the norms of traditional post rock structure (well maybe a little eletronic enhancement here and there), they still manage to paint interesting soundsacpes without the 'rip-off' tag.

So, it should be worth his time; thought it is not liable to become an acclimed masterpiece. Hope this helps.

^^^ Stole the words out of my mouth, although the last time I heard the EP I actually recall them being more powerful than mellow (maybe I confused them with Caspian and their EP...).

i am very much starting to enjoy listening to Godspeed you! black emperor much more than i had before. especially when i am painting or doing artwork. Is kayo dot considered post rock? they seem top fit the bill and are another band that has been growing on me, extremely experimental.

Hi, long time since my last post here (I mentioned two bands then)

I don't know if you mentioned this (probably you did) so sorry for repeating.
I am listening to Sickoakes - Seawards and love it very much. There are references from several other bands (EITS, GYBE and others), but this is not a clone band. The sound is very rich, powerful, and emotional.

I did not look in the post-rock chart, so I don't know if they're there, but I think they will be very rewarding to people here.

Know how you feel, I'm in a similar situation.
 
Also listened to some Samuel Jackson Five (thanks to Jimbo) and was impressed by the somewhat different approach that they have (and still there are some similarites with other bands).

Yeah. Their Easily Misunderstood album is very good. They have some complexity other bands don't have.

Lately I've been looking for post-rock bands with a bit more "personality". I've been avoiding most post-rock at the moment because of this.

Anyone here heard of this US band called San Agustin?  They're actually an improv-based trio but theres a lotta postrock and blues in their sound.  They've got a 3cd set on Table of the elements and its really quite lovely stuff, v refreshing too if one is tired of all that shoegaze-emo-based stuff out there currently............

My top 5 post-rock bands:
 
1) Pelican: I just love their sound, it's amazing and blows you away. It's so powerful especially their album "The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw" which is definitely a masterpiece that I recommend to anyone who enjoys music in general. There aren't many bands you can compare with Pelican which is a shame, on the other hand it's a good thing that they're doing something no one else does which is why I have deep respect for them.
 
2) GY!BE: One of the well known post-rock bands, I got one song in particular that I love from them which is "Storm". This is exactly how I like to see post-rock, it's simply amazing.
 
3) Do Make Say Think: I'm also a Jazz lover which is why this is one of my favorite post-rock bands because of their Jazz influences.
 
4) Russian Circles: An other post-metal band like Pelican that amazes me aswell. I like their album "Enter" best.
 
5) Explosions In The Sky: An other post-rock band that is very enjoyable, they remind me most of GY!BE and deserve a spot in my personal top-5.
 
Other post-rock/metal bands I like: Sigur Ros, Mogwai, Mouth of the Architect, Neurosis, Slint, Red Sparrowes and several others.

well I really don't know what it will be like till we record it.. But as soon as I get a copy of it, I'll post it here for you guys to take a listen and tell me what you think
I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

I must add that Godspeed You! Black Emperor's crescendo on "Mother****er=Redeemer" is my favourite piece of climactic, cinematic music ever created. The heights reached in that, and pieces such as "Storm", "Sleep", and "Rockets Fall on Rocket Falls" worked to make my first Post-Rock experience. Chamberry would be proud, I'm sure. Wink

My favorite climaxes from them are (in no particular order):
Antennas to Heaven
Motherf*cker = redeemer
Sleep

You should check out Yndi Halda, Penumbra (Wink).  They're as powerful and as cinematic as Godspeed, but in a more optimistic and joyful way.

BTW. I listened to the Sickoakes and I really enjoyed it. I need to check them out. I also got a chance to listen to the new 65daysofstatic album and, although I only heard it once, it was a very good experience!

Good news BPT and StoolMan. What band are you in?

Shocked No! My identity revealed!

Well, I think I prefer Godspeed's desolate depression of politically tinged climaxes. It feels so epic and forward-centered; I don't want Happy Songs for Happy People when I could say Good bye to an Enemy Airship in grand and depressing fashion.

Well, being this my first listen my memory is a bit blurry. The first thing is that they don't sound as noisy like in their debut. The album sounds more varied too and they still have the kick-in-the-face energy like in their debut. There are also more calmer parts as well. Keep in mind that I'm comparing this album with their debut since its the only album I own from them aside from this one.

Lately, I've been really getting into the post-rock scene. And I must say I'm very much suprised and intrigued by it. I wasn't at first when I listened to Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven six months ago. But then about a couple month later I listened to explosions in the skyClap and well they got me hooked Wink
 It's a very varied genre, though in the beginning they all sounded the same to meLOL I especially like the huge amount of emotion that is put into all of these songs/albums, which makes each album/song a sort of trip. Beautiful stuffThumbs%20Up
 
So far I've listened to: 65daysofstatic, A Silver Mt. Zion, Do Make Say ThinkClap, Explosions in the Sky, God is an Astronaut, GYBE!, If These Trees Could Talk(I don't think this band is very well known so I suggest you check out their myspace page), Isis, Pelican, Red Sparowes, The Samuel Jackson Five, Ulver
 
I like all of them, but I'm looking for more Big%20smile a band that is as unique as let's say GYBE! I wuld be thankfull for any suggestions

Check out Sigur Rós... They're not very much the other bands listed at all, and have vocals! They've got a very unique sound, but it might be an aquired taste. Have fun at the DMST concert, tell us all how it is!
