Peter Green Fleetwood Mac singles - Progressive Rock Music Forum

Three classic singles from the Peter Green era of Fleetwood Mac. They venture away from the more traditional blues numbers into almost prog territory. Pick your favourite.

Fleetwood Mac were, imho, one of the great singles bands of the era despite their blues rock credibility. Man Of The World is a lovely song, so that gets my vote.

Well I love Judas Priests version of Green Manalishi, so my vote goes thither!

Stevie and Lindsey killed Fleetwood. Shame Pete had to get all drugged up and stuff and leave. Nice to see a poll about the good old days.

"Man of the World" is one of my favourite songs ever, but the original recording quality is dreadful. "Oh Well, Part 1" is not as good as "Oh Well, Part 2", but the whole package is wonderful.

They had so many wonderful tracks. The B.B.C. version of "Sandy Mary" (which of course originally started life as an instrumental as part of the "Madge Sessions", I believe) is great, but the B.B.C. version cuts out a lot, so you need to get the full version elsewhere.

Saw PG FM a week after Albatross drop off the no. 1 spot in the UK charts - cost half a crown!. Peter Green refused to play Albatross with the memorable words (said in an east end accent) f*** off we don't play that **** in a proper blues club! I had been moonlighting in a record shop on Saturdays flogging that single to twonks who would ask for "the number one",

I would query: "Albert Ross?"

and get the reply "yes mate, Albert Ross" -

I wonder how many still think that tune is called Albert Ross?

However, once sold a Todd Rundgren album to a Wizzard fan who was convinced that because Wizard was on the LP sleeve it had to be a Roy Wood special - and the customer never returned it???!

I saw PG in the mid-late 1980s at St Albans City Hall (great little venue) on the back of the 'Kolors' album & he did play a beautiful version of "Albert".

As far as the poll goes, though, I love all three tracks, but I'm with Snowie, backing Green Manalishi (for the nostalgic Judas Priest connection...)

I deliberately omitted the ubiqitous Albatross, as much as I love it. It's never been the same for me since the Python sketch ("do you get wafers with it?").

It would have been a tough choice though in case Oh Well (part 2) would have been included.

I didn't include it because it was the B-side.

I went for "Green Manalishi" though, that song has so much power and menace to it.

Actuzally the whole 9 minutes of Oh Well were released on the single. It was cut down in half and both halves were plastered on the each vinyl sides.

So the sigle read as follows:

Side A: Oh Well Pt1

Side B: Oh Well Pt2

I think that another single of that era was World In Harmony
