The word 'poison' has a bit sensitive undertone in Russia but in Holland I would use the word poison for Heineken beer !

Well done, guys for promoting Russian prog - I am really happy to find something in these fields which is not as lame as Little Tragedies. Love INFRONT "Wordless", although sometimes feel it's derivative (from Djam Karet for instance), but they are very good nevertheless. Have yet to discover Lost World - heard only samples so far and got intrigued. Apart from those Er.J.Orchestra is worderful band, and, of course The Fromuz, X-religion, Al-Bird, Disen Gage, Roz Vitalis, Esthetic Education (to some extent) - well, quite a few actually . |

Nice to see you mention them here. They are quite unique and controversial - for pop-culture and modern USUAL Ukrainian scene - but not that much Prog for ProgArchives. I'd like to add them here in order to expand progheads' horizons , but I already feel there'll be problems with adding. BTW, they release new STUDIO album this April! Can't wait!!! |

Recently Russia is very active
I purchased Aviva / Rokus Tonalis, Disen Gage / Libertage, Lost World / 1st & 2nd in 2007. And I will buy Infront / Wordless, Little Tragedies / The SIxth Sense as soon as I can.
Also Karfagen's 2nd seems interesting ! I wish to get it

EXTROVERT is going to release a new CD this year. It is their "Silver Thread" ballet soundtrack, written back in the beginning of 2000s but laid on tape only now.

When I read Honganji his post I discovered that Russian band Aviva is still not added to Prog Archives. Here's a review about their debut-CD entitled Rous Tonalis I translated into English from the Dutch site Progwalhalla I also write for:
Aviva is a brandnew (2007) Russian musical project in which multi-instrumentalist Aviva is the prime mover, he plays Grand piano, keyboards, bass, samples and programmed drums and percussion. The instrumental music has strong echoes from bombastic keyboard driven prog like ELP and Japanese Gerard featuring a powerful Hammond sound, fluent piano runs and flashy synthesizer flights, very spectacular. The song The Valse At The End Of Times delivers a guest-musician on guitar, he gives a very powerful touch to the music with raw and propulsive guitar work. Some tracks sound quite experimental with soaring keyboards and weird voices. Although it's obvious that Aviva uses programmed drums and percussion, in my opinion he did a decent job with it, I have heard lots of worse examples! If you like keyboard driven prog some experimental excertions, this is an interesting CD!
