Drummer Alan White, original keyboardist Tony Kaye, and former
guitarist/producer Billy Sherwood have a formed a new band called
Circa. Here's the band's myspace site where you can find sound samples:
http://www.myspace.com/circahq Intitial impressions: sunny and proggy. Sure, it ain't Anderson/Howe/Squire, but it sounds really solid. The band's web site is circamusic.net |

The music might be exciting, though there would always be a feeling: they are just substitute for the new Yes album - I wonder whether it will ever be recorded

good news! – kaye back in action – his hammond will hopefully avoid
CIRCA: to drop too far into sherwood's partial CONSPIRACY-blandness. can't wait – the YesWestSpirit survives!!! |

MySpace is blocked through the firewall here at school....I rarely have time at home to check stuff like that (ironic isn't it?)....Is there any way to hear the music in another manner?

Well.........my first impression is that "Cut the ties" actually sounds like a Yes song, let's say, a GOOD one from the POP albums. Just imagine it sung by Jon and Chris, and it's a 100% YES song. That's not bad.....I guess.

I am guessing that Sherwood is the singer.....
I don't think Kaye & White sing much & don't know much about Jimmy Haun...

For those of you near Southern California these guys are playing an important concert at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. They will be playing the entire new album plus Yes music over it's history. If they get enough people there the promoter may take them across the states possibly more. The date is August 23.

What did Billy Sherwood contribute to Yes?

Billy Sherwood didn't contribute much to Yes. The title track of Open your Eyes is OK, the rest of the album is poor. Keys to Ascension is pretty good although the (Sherwood) production manages to flatten Rick Wakeman's keyboard solo on close to the Edge. Tony Kaye played on The Yes Album so he can't be bad.

Billy didn't contribute to Yes, but he shows in this album that he's an awesome bass player. He must have learnt something with Squire

If I'm not wrong Billy did work with Yes. In The Ladder and Open Your Eyes as Rythm guitar. EDIT: Billy also played keys as well supported backing vocals on those 2 albums mentioned before. Edited by cacho - June 21 2008 at 18:23 |

They played at ROSFest this year and played a great set which included a medley of Yes songs like Roundabout, Close To The Edge and Sound Chaser.
