Topic: FMPM, Montreal 2007 line-up information Posted: March 05 2007 at 20:04 |
Hello,
FMPM 2007 UPDATED LINE-UP - MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA
THE STRAWBS, IQ, SAMLA MAMMAS MANNA, NATHAN MAHL, VILLE EMARD BLUES BAND, and HAMADRYAD
Saturday September 15 and Sunday September 16, 2007 Pierre Peladeau Center
One of the most storied bands of the second wave of British progressive rock of the early 80s, IQ was one of a small number of British bands including Marillion, Pendragon, Twelfth Night, and Pallas, that carried the torch of progressive rock when many of the original proponents were no longer active. In their career spanning twenty-five years, they have released over a dozen studio and live albums and three DVDs, and are one of the most popular and best-selling independent progressive rock bands in the world. IQ has headlined progressive rock festivals around the world, and are a two-time headliner of the North East Art Rock Festival in the United States. Their elaborate symphonic rock, featuring extensive guitar and keyboard leads and the dramatic vocals of Peter Nicholls, has gained a legion of fans worldwide and their return to Montreal has been greatly anticipated. Their only North American date of 2007 will feature the world premiere of some of the material from their next album, due for release in October, with a full multimedia presentation.
Montreal's HAMADRYAD has gained worldwide recognition since their 2001 debut release "Conservation of Mass". This album led to the band's invitation to the prestigious Baja Prog festival in Mexico in 2002. An experienced live outfit, their hard-edged sound influenced by the classic prog bands has been refined over the intervening years. After 2004's "Safe in Conformity", they performed at the Rites of Spring Festival in early 2006. One of Montreal's most popular progressive rock bands, we are pleased to have them join our line-up.
This year's FMPM will be held at the Pierre Peladeau Center, in the Salle Pierre Mercure. A beautiful and intimate auditorium seating just under 800, the Pierre Peladeau Center has fantastic acoustics and sightlines. It is also conveniently located in the Latin Quarter of Montreal, only blocks away from the Olympic Stadium in case you needed to get there at some point in the weekend. While we have a great appreciation for the high quality of the Gesù, we feel now is the right time to move to a venue that can accommodate everyone interested in seeing this line-up perform, rather than see a lot of people get shut out.
Regular and Gold tickets will go on sale this Friday, at www.progquebec.com. If you have pre-ordered your gold tickets, remember to log in some time that day to finalize your order. Gold tickets will cost $160 this year (about $135 US), while regular tickets are priced at $95 (about $80 US). Gold tickets offer preferred seating, our eternal gratitude, and maybe some other neat stuff along the way.
Plans are brewing for a Friday pre-show or possibly some Saturday counter-programming for Genesis for any of you who hate Phil Collins. All of this is still in the works. What I can say now is that Montreal is the place to be this September and I hope you will join us then and enjoy.
Regards, Sean

IQ were well received last time they came here so I'm pretty sure people will be happy when they learn that. As for the bands from Québec, they are always well-received too.
Samla Mammas Manna and the Strawbs are both great so I can't see how the crowd could be disappointed too.
It'll be great.

Don't worry abouy Genesis (well what is left of) at the Big O at the same day of
FMPM.The real proggers will be at the Salle Pierre Mercure because you cannot go
wrong with your great line-up and at a fair price (how much for Genesis?) and the sound at the Big O is horrible. So who cares about Phil Collins?
Keep the good work

Sébastien,
I did not realize THAT was the reason you wanted Hamadryad to play. LOL! I hope you liked your write-up :).
Gilles, I tend to agree. Just in case we are scheduling ourselves so that we will not be in conflict with the Genesis show. That way if somebody wants to do both (and can afford it) they can. But I think we have a great line-up this year and many proggers will prefer it to seeing Invisible Touch.

We had news from Genesis; they will play at the Olympic Stadium on the 14 th of september, so for those of you who want to attend to both events,( Genesis show and the Prog.Fest ) you will be able.
For Genesis fan; the show at the Big O will be made to have 40,000 people and they will play on a center stage. I think we will be able to buy tickets this saturday.

By Popular Demand...
The FMPM is proud to announce the return of Miriodor for the 2007 edition.
It is difficult to describe in words the impact of Miriodor's music. Progressive rock fans like them because of the tightness and virtuosity that comes from their intensive rehearsal practices. Out music fans like them because of their comfort with dissonance, and complex harmonic structures. All music lovers can appreciate their gift for captivating and innovative melodies and the joy and passion that comes forth from their compositions.
With a variety of configurations under their belt, the modern nucleus of Miriodor dates to about the mid-90s album "Jongleries Elastiques" ("Elastic Juggling"), and subsequent albums ("Mekano", "Parade") have earned increasing acclaim and popular support. When Miriodor has played a show at a place like NEARfest, there is usually a lot of buzz afterwards from people who had no idea they would like it so much, who had no idea they even liked "avant-prog" (for the record Miriodor aren't big fans of terms like "avant-prog" or "RIO", but I'm writing this so bear with me). In a nutshell, Miriodor makes it easy to enjoy difficult music.
Last year they were one of the most anticipated bands and sure enough, after the fact in review after review people talked about how much they had enjoyed the concert. We thought, is it too soon to have them back? Shows what I know. FMPM 2006 attendees have been letting us know that for sufficiently good music, there is no such thing as too soon.
With continually evolving new material and old friend Lars Hollmer in town, who knows what might be in store for this year's performance? What is certain is last year has set a high standard and high expectations, and it would be hard to meet them again without... Miriodor.
Tickets for the FMPM go on sale tomorrow at noon. Gold and regular tickets will be on sale at the same time. Gold tickets are available exclusively at http://www.progquebec.com (which also has the lowest fees). Tickets are also available through Pierre Peladeau and Admission.com.
Stay tuned for further announcements in the coming weeks including pre-show information.

Hehehe, I knew that people from the FMPM asked Denis or St-père but we
we're waiting on a confirmation. When I saw your post, I joked the
thing to get that confirmation but I finally got it the same day when I
saw Denis so...it was quite pointless for me.
At least I played a good joke (well, I found it funny.)
PS: Who cares about seeing genesis in a big stadium where the sound is
near to sh*t? People who are fans of prog and like your festival won't
pay for that piece of sh*t and won't attend it! They will prefer seeing
the FMPM line-up. Don't make band play on mornings, that's a suffering!!
