Oh, Portnoy has some great chops, but I have come to realize he overplays. A measure of greatness in a musician could be the tasteful placement of rests.

Porcupine Tree. While I like DT, Porcupine Tree are definitely the better songwriters in my eyes.

A great musician is not only one who plays very well, but also one who knows when NOT to play...  This is why PT are better than DT.

No, looking for a reason why someone would offer something that had nothing to offer.

^^ Andu, why the hostile attitude ?  He was merely asking a question.

If you have a bad day, take it some place else, StyLaZyn did nothing to get your heat.

Negative feedback is just that, feedback. I think people shouldn't be questioned about their tastes and also I think that giving negative feedback shouldn't be prohibited or judged. Personal interpretation of others' supposed intentions mustn't become base of action. BTW, I was just reacting. No harm meant, but please be more gentle around, people.

For over-all consistency and tastefullness, my vote goes to Porcupine Tree. I happen to like Images and Words by Dream Theater though. A shame they never made anything as good.

A vote for DT, for rather nostalgic reasons.

I love IAW and Awake.

I agree here.  Everyone should be perfectly OK by stating that he dislikes the subject discussed in a thread or that he prefers none. Everyone has got the options to agree, to disagree, to ignore or to protest. Sometime ago I was discussing similar situation with MikeEnRegalia, who was of the opinion that the best reaction to the threads you dislike is ignoring them, but I kinda disagree, because sometimes negative comments can be very helpful for other people participating to understand the point.

and by the way, I don't really like any of the two bands mentionned here
