Topic: Star Trek Posted: March 01 2007 at 07:06 |
As someone pr-empted me yesterday, stole my brain wave patterns and did the Star Wars poll
Here is my alternative Star Trek poll.
Just choose your favourite and no posts like" Star Trek films are rubbish, I prefer more cerebral or obscure German film" type responses.
My top 5 I think.
- First Contact
- The Voyage Home
- Wrath Of Kahn
ok 3.

Well for me it would have to be The Motion Picture. I was there at the theater on opening day 1979, And it really blew me away. Yeah I know its about an hour too long but I really have a thing for it. I especially really love the soundtrack, I wish I still had my soundtrack record from when I was a kid. I just watched it again about a month ago after not seeing it in 10 or more years, And it still has that nostalgic something for me.
I like the other movies as well and would choose any of those over most Hollywood movies anyday.

For me, it's "The voyage home". i was just watching it again a few nights ago. It's a terrific blend of actionn, sci-fi and humour. "Next you'll be telling me you come from outer space". "No I come from Iowa, I work in outer space".
After that, "First contact" and "Generations".

Ricardo Montalban...
But my favorite is "Voyage Home". I also like the first one with a "plausible" story about the fate of V'ger and the beautiful actress Persis Khambatta. "Khan" comes next.

I'll be the first to vote for The Undiscovered Country, followed by Wrath of Khan and First Contact.

Kidding, love Trek. Anyone seen the enhanced original TV series? They've added little things here and there; better looking effects, exteriors, and detail shots.. but very tasteful and unobtrusive, they really did a great job.

First one. Clever plot. The rest is horrible, though First contact is not that bad. Wrath of Khan is acceptable, I think. That one about Whales was just stupid.

I watched them *A LOT*, and after careful consideration I'm going with Generations, closely followed by First Contact.
Reason: Generations has the best plot ... there are so many interesting things happening (warning - spoilers ahead):
- Both generations (crew + spaceship) appearing in the same move (Shattner + Stewart in the same scene!) - Kirk dies ... twice. - Data uses an emotion chip ... it's a bit inconsistent with the series, where the chip was broken beyond repair, but I don't really mind, because every fan of TNG expects this to happen eventually (Data discovering true emotions) - The TNG Enterprise makes a crash landing ... sadly this was sort of given away in the trailer, but I hadn't seen the trailer so I was really surprised. And even if you had seen the trailer there's still the Nexus - so during the first crash landing scene you don't know if it might undo these events. - The Nexus scenes themselves ... well, I don't care much for the "Picard's Family" scenes, but the ones with Shattner are really cool, because somehow they're reminiscent of the previous movies, the 5th one in particular (the Yosemite camp fire). - And of course there's Malcom McDowell - a perfect choice for villain.
From the first 6 my favorite is easily Voyage Home, but they are all flawed in some way ... unrealistic dialogues, inconsistencies, unnecessary effects.

I like the old episodes of Star Trek much better than what's been produced recently.I think that I could speak for almost all fans when I say that.Spock has always been my favorite character; He's just so virtuous, but at the same time he's a closet softy.I voted for the Wrath of Kahn.

Number 4 I think? Was that when they go back in time to San Fransico? That one was hilarious. I liked the Borg one the best I think just because the Borg are so damn creepy.
