Experimental/Post rock Appreciation Threa

Well I think I'll have to wait a little more than a week to get it since I'm 120% sure I won't see it on any record store around here so I'll have to order it from Amazon and it'll take about 2 weeks to arrive. But I'll be patient. BTW. Good to see you're enjoying it. None of their albums sound a like so that's why I like this band. They surprised me in every released of theirs and I sure hope they will with this one.

All recent purchases.  I don't know if I could name a favorite though.  The new albums by Do Make Say Think and EITS are great and must buys. 

Still trying to locate more Jakob though - imported from Australia/New Zealand.

Also - Caspian is suppose to be coming out with a new album called The Four Trees and Pelican will have their new album out in May called the City of Echoes.

I think this will be a band people in the thread would enjoy. A little band from Italy. I have been listening to them for a while now, but recently picked it up at one of our indie-dealers. Tends toward the more droney - free rock scene, focusing deeply on textures. Here is a little more information.

Oooh. Breathtaking stuff here for those who like their music to have a hazy, vague, mysterious aura, and to combine delicate indie-rock "pop" elements (moody vocals, slow-motion melody) with more experimental, fragmented structures and textures... It's the work of a four-piece outfit from Italy, who immerse their murky, mostly instrumental post-rock electro-acoustic playing in droney field recordings, blurring the boundaries, with tree frogs or crickets, and what sounds like hissing, escaping gasses, and other noises that require some imagination to describe playing an important role alongside more obvious instruments like guitars and drums and turntables. There's a definite Jewelled Antler feel, that sort of organic, wandering-in-the-woods, letting-our-ears-find-the-way songmaking process, but with more palpable tension, bringing in a bit of the percussive skitteriness of fellow Italians and Hapna labelmates Sinistri/Starf**kers. We can compare this with lots of other things we love: Radian meets Richard Youngs? Kemialliset Ysatvat teamed up with Tape? Blithe Sons, Larsen, Sigur Ros, Village Of Savoogna, Dean Roberts... we're reminded in ways of all of 'em.
A truly gorgeous album that has the potential to appeal to a lot of different tastes, finding the wonderfully, naturally imperfect intersection of song and improv and field recording drone. This being their second release (first for Hapna, who've released this in the Swedish label's usual nice slim-sleeve packaging), we're going to have to track down their previous one... just as soon as A Year Of The Aural Gauge Operation's sheer dreaminess lets go its hold on our thoughts. Once you get into this experimental droning type records, they can become quite addictive. I love listening to such piece just when the sun is going down. You have that sleepy hazy feeling in the room, just amazing.

You might be quite surprise but one of the best scenes for this style of music comes from right next door to me... New Zealand. This being said Australia's scene has been catching up over the last few years. Just 6 months band I didn't even know such health scene existed so close to home.

I would love to have a big painting on my house of the cover art work of The Earth is not a Cold Dead Place... That would be pretty sweet.

^^^^ Trust the Japanese to make an interesting Jazzy post-rock album. Listening through "Never Wear Out Your Summer XXX!!!" for the first time as we speak. A step away from the cliché depressive moods, quite beat happy music.

I have it on my computer, but I haven't had the time to listen to it.  Most likely tomorrow I'll give them a listen. I'm too tired to listen to it now.

People should really pay attention to the music scene in Japan. There are a lot of excellent and varied musicians that most of the time a lot of people miss out on.
