Empire has the best lightsaber duel out of all of them, Vader v. Luke the big secret revealed totally awesome.
Empire is also Yoda's best performance, he's hilarious in that one. But still the original is hard to beat. |

I'll go with III (VI?) I mean Return of the Jedi, followed closely by A New Hope and then by The Empire sTrikes back..... I'm such a big Darth Vader fan, , in the first three I don't have him so that's a minus... besides the fact that the first three (or, in the order they were filmed, last three) are pretty awful as pieces of cinema.... specially the first and second ones.... the third one was kinda decent. But the first was damaged not only by the poor plot by also but the atrocity of JarJar Binks and the exaggeration with the explosions and cgi... you see? The three original movies weren't done all in a computer but had more plot, more of a story... The second and third of the new ones (episodes II and III, man am I getting confused!) were saved by characters like Christopher Lee's Count Dooku (always a master Lee ) and scenes like the saber-duel with Joda... and, of course, the final creation of The Dark lord of the Sith

"Empire Strikes Back" is really good, but it isn't a complete story. "Return of the Jedi" is ruined by Lucas beginning to pander to kids (Ewoks, that hokey ending). The first one is just great.

The whole story is great, but the only film of the series that's acceptable and I like is The Empire Strikes Back. Some great directors, much better ones than those who got to direct, were offered the opportunity to direct episodes 5 and 6, but they all - stupidly, IMO - turned down the proposal. Just imagine a combination of Brian de Palma's imagination and skills combined with the great story!
The 2 best things for me in Episode 4 is Alec Guiness' performance and the novelty effect.

Empire Strikes Back is my favorite of the OT,it's very dark and everything is left up in the air at the end.
Out of the PT it's definitely Revenge of the Sith.I waited almost 30 years to see that!!!!!!!!!

A New Hope for me. It starts off briliantly with the battle on the Rebel blockade runner.

The Empire Strikes Back is the only one I still really care for -- mostly thanks to Yoda.
The original trilogy is much better than the later batch -- which, frankly I find miserable dreck. Though I loved Star Wars when it first came out, the franchise doesn't appeal to me nearly so much anymore -- unlike films like 2001: A Space Odyssey, though a little before my time, that have stood the test of time for me. My favourite Lucas film is the 1971 THX-1138... Now THAT's a good movie. http://www.thx1138movie.com/ But then I like such dystopian tales. Edited by Logan - February 28 2007 at 18:02 |

I must say I am not very fond of the whole Star Wars series. There are many SF movies around that are a lot more interesting.

Well, what are the "Star Wars" movies, when you look at them? Nothing more than horse operas taken into space with lots of special effects thrown in. That is in my opinion not enough to make them interesting. If you want an FX-loaded movie when you watch SF, then "Star Wars" is the place to go. If you want a plot that is a little bit more complicated than "Good fights Evil", have a look at other movies.

Oh, you have to excuse us idiots who like Star Wars. I realise we have no clue about SF. I thought the question here was about peoples favourite SW movie? So which is your favourite? Why do you always bring a thread down?
I have no idea what a "horse opera" is. Not a clue.

I think I'm possibly the only adult in the UK who has never sat and watched any Star Wars film... but I'm quite possibly wrong. I thought I was the only adult in the UK who didn't own a mobile phone until recently, when I met another one...
Needless to say, I won't be voting, but neither will I denigrate something which has brought so much happiness to so many...

Thus speaks the "serious" film buff!
Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back is the best film ever of course you'll agree?
