Ages ago I made a foolish mistake ... I was under the impression that my vinyl records were useless since CD's were all the rage and I sold most of my prog collection on vinyl to a second hand dealer  for a small sum. it has taking years to build the collection I had on CD  again  but theres a certain charm missing with CD`s   ... the art work . on a good turntable vinyl can sound amazing
Oh well we do stupid things and learn ... I wonder if I`m the only clown who did this  stupid thing Clown

I thought about getting rid of my vinyl years ago but never did. Smile
When I'm 'playing' and 'listening' to music I definitely prefer vinyl. I like putting the record on the turntable and looking at the artwork. So tactile!
If I'm out walking or driving then CD's are fine.

I like both CD's and Vinyls equally as much.

Well, depends on the album. I've got all the Yes albums on vinyl, whereas I have all the Genesis albums on CDs. Let's say, when I find something on CD and vinyl, I'll buy the one on vinyl, and I look for my jazz-records on vinyl too, because that's the kind of music you don't want to hear digitally remastered. But then all the new bands, I'll rather buy their new CDs, not their new vinyls, so I guess there's the difference, but I do like both as much.

I love having vinyls to look at and I can't play them for a good reason. I don't have anything to play the vinyls on. I would have a cd copy of the album so I could walk around and listen to the album as well. So I like them equally in teh aspect that I use them for different things.

I just bought a new record player so I can listen to my LPs again Thumbs%20Up...have not had a working deck for years.
 
I like both really.  CDs can sound pretty good these days and have the benefit of convenience.  Vinyl is less practical but it has a certain magic!

Most of my prog collection is in vinyl just because here in my country is easy to find second-hand records in a very good condition much cheaper than cds. Many prog works were only released in vinyl in Brazil, but never in cd, so the imported cds tend to cost 5 times more than a second-hand vinyl in mint condition.

Other than the amount of room they have for artwork, I don't see the advantage of vinyl records.  They are cumbersome and you can't play them on the road.  Sure, the quality is great until they get a couple of pops and scratches.  And we all know that no matter how hard you try to take care of them, they're going to get small imperfections.
 
This doesn't mean I'm ready to get rid of the three or four hundred vinyl albums I currently have in my collection. (Insert appropriate winking emoticon here)  Most of the records I have recorded on to cassette to play in my car.
 
Some of that stuff I won't find on CD anytime soon.  I mean, it took years to see Animation on CD!

Remember the tri-fold cover of YESSONGS??  and the inside cover of ''THIS WAS''from the TULL.; Led Zeppelin 3 with its wheel, or Physical Graffity and its windows.

Well, they serve two different purposes. When I am in my room and staying there for a while, nothnig beats spinning a good album, because vinyl just eclipses music better than CD does. But however, the CD is far more convinient far car rides and in the walkman and whatnot. So I would be lsot without either.

i'm a bit torn between the seconfd and the third choice.
 
Vinyls are not user-friendly, yet they have so much charm.

My turntable sits fallow and all of my records sit in the basement, most of them played only once or twice because I immediately put them on cassette.  I can't imagine my wife being too thrilled with me setting up the turntable and strolling down memory lane in my living room.  Only CD's for me.

Don't you mean "Stand Up" by Tull? That's the one I remember anywayConfused and Thick as a brick of course.
Soft Machine did the wheel thing before Zep.
Bob Marley was also quite innovative with the "Catch A Fire" sleeve.
 
But you're right, Keep you vinyls at least for the sleeve art! CDs can never beat them in that respect.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that vinyls were far obsolete when I was born, so now me having a record player and owning upwards of 100 vinyls is a real treat, and it makes me enjoy the music more because this is how it was before remastering and such.

I collected LPs from around 1962 till about 1988 and I've managed to keep most of them (probably about 5,000) in relatively good shape and playing quality.  The nice thing is that there are many, many albums I'm glad I have but would not want to spend the $ to duplicate them on CD.  Unless very meticulous care is taken in the digital remastering of the analog masters there usually isn't all that much improvement in sound to my ears so the old LPs do just fine.  This way I can buy CDs from newer groups and continue to expand my prog horizons.

Vinyl records are obsolete, so are CD's, it's all about music files on the computer now.

Vynyls for the great cover art and the general sexy touch, when you pull them out of the cover, place them on the turn table and put the needle on the record ....I hate these square CD plastic boxes, but the sound is better in most cases...and I rarely listen to music on my PC
