I really like these songs (God Is An Astronaut)
Yummy stuff, a lot like Mogwai, but I can deal with it. |

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

Wow! Page 20!
^^^ Cheers BPT! Assaf: I heard of Gregor Samsa and I have their split with Red Sparowes. Good stuff as well. I heard somewhere that Mia Matsumiya from Kayo Dot played with them. Got to check out Sparrows Swarm & Sing though. Andu: I'm very sorry Andu, but I still haven't listened to them. I'll go and do it after I finish with the album I'm listening at the momment. |

Pretty soon, this thread will grow more powerful than the Canterbury, Symphonic, and Neo-Prog threads combined!
Even if I enjoy the little niche everyone's carved out here, it's nice to spread the love. I'm expecting even more traffic after Do Make Say Think and Explosions In The Sky release their latest albums. I can't wait!

Well I don't think we'll ever be as strong as the other ones... Maybe bigger than the Rio or Zeuhl.
But I don't think we can drag down the symph and art.
oh well. We're strong but mighty!

^^^^ RIO is a tough one. It's the second largest one with the Symphonic prog being #1 by one page.
At least we're the 4th biggest appreciation thread here in PA. I have to find something to celebrate... |

How about one song from EITS and DMST's new albums?
Do Make Say ThinkDo Make Say Think - The Universe!.mp3 (You, You're a History in Rust, 2007) Explosions in the SkyExplosions in the Sky - Catastrophe and the Cure.mp3 (All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone, 2007) And a free compilation to top it all of? *Download Here* The Silent Ballet: Volume 3 Winter 2007 Since the release of Volume II, much has changed at The Silent
Ballet. A full website has launched, fulfilling our promise of
extensive coverage of current artists working within instrumental
and/or experimental frameworks, and the second half of our first year
as a new entity on the internet has begun. Time sure does have a way of
sneaking up on you when you least expect it.
The third volume of The Silent Ballet compilation series aims to show a different side to the website’s coverage. While the first two focused primarily on instrumental rock and post-rock artists, the third compilation makes good on our claim to have interest in experimental artists, and hopefully brings some much needed variety to the series. The scope of this project was much wider than normal – some artists come from an electronic background, others focus on the art of ambience, and still others bring in a jazzy influence. This odd combination of sounds is brought together by a common thread of ”warmth” that is carried across the tracks, arguably suitable for the winter months. Many thanks go out to the people who made this compilation possible: the artists and labels involved. We do hope some pique the listener’s interests and encourage supporting them in whichever means are deemed appropriate. for track listings and info check: http://thesilentballet.com/dnn/Home/tabid/36/ctl/Details/mid/367/ItemID/301/Default.aspx Edited by chamberry - February 11 2007 at 20:21 |

I'm going to get Spiderlands by Slint, A Silver Mt. Zion's debut, Goodbye Enemy Airship by DMST, and maybe F#A#Infinity later this week.
Also, I just got All is Bright, All is Violent by God Is An Astronaut, TNT by Tortoise, and (I'm not sure if I mentioned this) Yanqui UXO by GYBE. |

Although not really post-rock, I've been listening to The Sun Awakens by Six Organs of Admittance and it's a good drone folk album. Not really my cup of tea honestly, but it's slowly growing up on me. I recently found another band called Windy & Carl which is also drone folk and their EP Akimatsuri is really lovely album to listen to. One single song clocking in at 33 minutes divided into several parts. Check out the cover and you'll get and idea of their sound. sorry for it being little. |

I listened to them and they are a nice band. They often remind me of Rachel's but more folky. Not post-rock though, but still good. I remember recommending you a lot of bands, but I missed one that is truly the mix of post-rock and folk. The band is called Tenhi and their album Maaäet is definitely a must check. Here are some samples from their website: Samples from the 2006 album 'TENHI III maaäet'.

Windy & Carl? they're neo-shoegazers but also postrock by association (released stuff on the Kranky and Darla labels, long ambient guitar washes etc)........they're good!!!
Six Organs is def not postrock more like psych-folk...... and btw anyone heard of this band Paik? they've 3 albums to date and this Detroit band push all the right melodic, epic postrock buttons......... |

Of course... ...
At any rate, both were excellent. The Do Make Say Think was a bit out of left-field, but I don't own any of their recorded music (just live boots). The anoying part was that both tracks seemed to segue into the following one on the album! I can't be left hanging like that! This will make the following weeks of waiting much harder. Haha, thank you again, Cham.

Sorry about that. I must have heard the drone folk name somewhere and it got glued to my head. Maybe I was referring to free folk instead of drone folk? . . . I heard Paik. I have their Corridors album and it's a great album. Love the atmosphere they create. |
