Well I agree with T that there are far worse reviews than this one, and this should un doubtedly stay on the site. But one thing I did realize was that the reviewer constantly said some thinks were OK and some parts were good/decent which means it should be rated higher than one star.

TASAVALLAN PRESIDENTTI — Lambertland
Review by jswissman

4%20stars I would just like to point out the similarity between some of the material on this recording and early "Stand Up/Benefit" era Jethro Tull. Just listening to the last track alone should ensure such a comparison.

Is anobody else not fond of the reviews that describe the album, song by song and detailed? i stay away from those reviews, when I'm reading reviews I'm looking for an overall assesment of the sound, maybe some similar bands to base things on listed, strong points etc.

When I read the reviews that break down each song are tedious and sometimes ruin the album for me, I think the intricate details are best left to the listener to discover.

ELOY — Timeless Passages - The Very Best Of Eloy
Review by Autoband

2%20stars I usually don't go into other people's reviews, but seyo's review of this compilation is dead wrong and just dreadful. He's discarting Eloy like some kind of B band that is uninteresting, dull and only suitable for "teenage kids" trying to understand somewhat ambitious music as he calls it. He also says Frank Bornemann has bad English, wrong again, he has an accent, but the lyrics are in good English (unlike seyo's text with various errors in it). Ok sorry for my ranting I will stop now.

In my opinion Eloy is actually a great band that any prog lover should've listened to. Sure Eloy isn't one of the top ten best bands ever, but good nonetheless. Personally I don't like compilations, and since this one isn't a particulary great one it doesn't get a good rating. Still it's very long and contains some of Eloy's best work. I suggest you do not start here though, rather go with Inside if you like really psychedelic rock. If you're more into space rock then Ocean is the album for you. If you want some of the lighter stuff then I suggest Colours with the great Illuminations track.

So please, don't get discouraged by the other reviews if you don't know Eloy. Eloy really is worth trying and you probably won't regret it, however don't start with a compilation like this one.

Not the best of reviews and the first paragraph is just about someone else's review, but not necessarily atrocious. In the last paragraph he somewhat gives a recommendation and some people may find that useful for them. I'd say let it stay.

This album has neither picture nor tracklist! How's that possible? I thought that you couldn't add an album without all info given. Confused

Good point, I had never noticed that detail. LOL
Basicaly the album title is the only song in the disc, but I get your point. I'll see if I can edit. Wink

EDIT- Nope, I have no permission to mess with the tracklist or cover. Embarrassed

Noticed this thread so .... I could only find any info on Planet Mellotron .....

"
The album's release was predated by the Vida single, a twelve-minute plus track split into two for vinyl release, rejoined for the CD."

I have updated the track listing, but we are still minus a picture - maybe it never had one, so we have to hope someone has a copy they could take a pic of for us

The closest thing I can find is the backcover. I believe the front had nothing, just a hole through which you could see the vinyl sticker:

That review is probably longer than the whole Velvet Room LOL

I will never write a review that long again...

I was just feeling really special about Tago Mago that day...  still feel that way about it, in fact...

As for the velvet room comment... all I can say is... I wish it were true...

Most of my reviews hang out somewhere between 1000-2000 words, which is perfectly adequate, I feel...

A lot of work is a bit of an understatement.... 4 hours total work... the longest I ever have and ever will spend on a review...

Well, that's how I write reviews....

I generally go for the best of both worlds, however, with an overall assessment and a track by track breakdown.

I've started honing by TbT breakdowns, however, so that are more of an overall assessment of the track than a play by play...

DEADSOUL TRIBE — A Murder Of Crows
Review by Imaginos

4%20stars This is a beautiful, intense, mesmeric, heavy and dark album. There's not much else I can add; I've listened to this many times and I never tire of it. I can't single out one particular performance or track; it all comes together as a sum greater than the individual parts. Excellent - Progressive? who cares when music comes as good as this.

LOL

But we do care! That's why this site is called Progarchives!
