On January 27th...

1984: Michael Jackson’s hair caught on fire during the filming of a Pepsi commercial in Los Angeles. Pyrotechnics did not operate on cue, injuring the singer. Jackson was hospitalized for a few days and fans from around the world sent messages of concern.



1756: Composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg, Austria.



1901: Opera composer Giuseppe Verdi died in Milan, Italy, at age 87.



1945: Nick Mason (Pink Floyd drummer) was born



1964: Actress Bridget Fonda was born.

1972: In Londonderry, Northern Ireland, 13 unarmed civil rights demonstrators are shot dead by British Army paratroopers in an event that becomes known as "Bloody Sunday." The protesters, all Northern Catholics, were marching in protest of the British policy of internment of suspected Irish nationalists. British authorities had ordered the march banned, and sent troops to confront the demonstrators when it went ahead. The soldiers fired indiscriminately into the crowd of protesters, killing 13 and wounding 17.

You forgot to mention Lewis Carroll (whose real name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson), author of "Alice in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass and what Alice Found there", who would have celebrated his 175th birthday on the 27th. He and Mozart are the people I am most proud to share birthday with.
