Not that proggy, but for you Waters fans here is a short 45 sec sneak
peak of an upcoming song he wrote for the soundtrack to the movie 'The
Last Mimzy' to be released in a few months. Thanks to the Brain Damage
website for the link.
The song is called 'Hello (I Love You)' and can be found here: http://newlinerecords.com/pages/mimzy/rogerwatersplayer.htm Although it has the same title as that of a Jim Morrison tune, it sounds more like a 1980/The Wall-ish song, at least the chorus does... Enjoy |

You know, now that I think about it, a lot of Waters sounds very Wallish...

A broken fragment from the wreckage of Pink Floyd. ( yet again).
Roger is the words, David and Co. WERE the music.
With that in mind, Rogers solo work has always been musically deficient
This nugget shows no progress.

Have to disagree with that... I also always thought that Waters was the lyricist and the others were the composers. But if you investigate more, you'll learn that Waters wrote the music to the whole of Animals album (except for a small part in Dogs), most of DSOTM, most of WYWH and the whole The Wall (except for 2-3 songs he co-wrote with Gilmour). That was also a surprise for me but that is the truth.

No, they weren't. If David and Co were the music their post Waters albums would at least have a couple of good songs. And On an Island would not be such a dull album (not to mention the '84 solo) and btw do you believe it shows progress? Edited by dedokras - January 22 2007 at 04:54 |

I think your opinion gives little respect for David and Rick. Without their musical contributions the Floyd never would have been the band they were. David's guitar work on Shine On (for example) is the heart and soul of song. Rick's piano compositions on DarkSide were indespensible. There is no doubt that Roger was the creative driving force behind Floyd, but he was not alone.
As for the solo works, I personally prefer everybodies works except Rogers.
On An Island is a brilliant album and a huge leap In Gilmour's career. He has finally found a path that is out of the Floyd's shadow.

I think you got me wrong, in fact Gilmour is in my all time top 3 guitar players (and usually my faviourite one), and I absolutely adore Rick's work not only as a keyboard player but also as a composer (Summer'68, Burning bridges, Remember a Day, Us and Them, Great gig... and his entire Broken China album). I just thought that the statement Gilmour&co were the music is a bit unfair to Roger, because he is not only a brilliant lyricist but a fine composer too.

I think we are both on the same page. I guess my original comment was somewhat heavy handed.
I don't hate Roger either. I just feel Floyd was a joint effort, where everybody played a key role.

new material is simply........................a new day
Incidentally I have just seen an interview here with him in Sydney and he is so keen on getting The Floyd back together to do an album. It is a pity Gilmour is not interested and if not he should let Wright, Mason and Waters reunite under the PF banner. He mentioned that Mason and Wright especially are great friends with him again.
