I am for a mix for these two bands (80% Rainbow, 20% Wishbone Ash). And you?

Dio era Rainbow was magnificent, by and large...

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I'm not a huge fan of Rainbow, but I do like some of their stuff. It's Wisbone Ash that I just don't get. This band gets some very high praise. To me it sounds like a poor man's Grateful Dead.

I'm not an expert on Wishbone Ash (though 'Argus' is a great album indeed), while I am a fan of Dio-era Rainbow. Hate what they did with the godawful JL Turner, though.

Never heard the bands as being remotely similar. The first Wishbone Ash album is a superb record of rock blues (and one joy was the twin lead guitars) - but as to parallels with Grateful Dead, personally I've never heard any similarities

Beh... Dio I had way to have it in front to the eyes to the "Biker Fest" 2000 to Osoppo, Udine ("Magical Tour"). I should say that the concert is begun with 30 minutes of delay (the Death SS to Roncade are begun with 1h 30' of delay... Damned Steve!!! Eh, eh. ..!!!). I was in first line (taken out. I have happened also with: Grave Digger, Europe, PFM, Revoltons, Symphony X and Necrodeath! !!) and I should say that to the first note I was about to faint! Immense. it is a dwarf and thin but has two lungs... It hit me in all of the concert (it was fresher to the end that to the beginning!!!) but... "Mob Rules" a masterpiece was, sung with hatred for the finite experience badly with the Black Sabbath and in the old songs while in those of "Magica" not more than this had impressed me. However also I should say that it is not true that it gives back alone if it has a band that goes along with it to 100%. This lack associate it to "Look Up The Wolves" of 1990 (plays a certain Jens Johansson. ..) but, to my warning, is a very valid album (almost a masterpiece). |

Poll Question: Who had created the Symphonic Metal?
Neither, I'm afraid (*wonders why everyone is talking on miscellaneous topics*).

I don't think Wishbone Ash have any relations to metal.

There was another mix, when Dio joined Black Sabbath.
Ozzy called them BLACK RAINBOW.

Wishbone Ash vs Rainbow? No contest. Rainbow all the way. Ritchie Blackmore is one of the best guitarist to ever grace the stage. And Rainbow, especially with Dio at the helm, had probably the best vocalist in the meta industry. While Wishbone Ash isnt metal, the vocals were Wishbone
Ash's downfall. Martin Turner's vocals were terrible, especially when
sung live. This is why the band voted to remove him from that spot, but
the band never followed through in succeeding to replace him with
someone else. They got John Wetton for an album, but didnt use him to
his full potential.
As for today, Andy Powell does a good job in the vocals department, much better than any previous vocalist for the band. Martin has started his own tribute band and his vocals, while improved from earlier days, still just doesnt cut it. Martin released a new live album last year, which was released late due to massive overdubbing, and a volume 2 was suppose to follow at the beginning of this year but still hasnt surfaced, either due to more massive overdubbing, or because the original album sold so poorly that the second volume may have been cancelled. I just cant see comparing these two bands though. Its like comparing steak to corn chips. Rainbow is the steak. Now, a comparison of Rainbow to Deep Purple would be more like it. I liked Rainbow more than I did Purple, as I think Ritchie was able to express himself more freely with Rainbow, and again, Dio at vocals I liked better then Gillian or Coverdale. Just wish Dio would have stayed with Rainbow as others who followed just didnt live up to him. |

Rainbow is almost perfection for me. Dio's voice and Blackmoore's guitar and all that jazz (not literally). Wishbone unfortunatley doesn't do anything for me.

I have never heard Wishbone Ash, so I won't vote. But Rainbow with Dio is totally amazing hard rock!!!!! The latter, poppy period is quite good and enjoyable.

I've only heard "Stargazer" and it's quite cool, but not awesome... still, Rainbow must have recorded a lot of much better music if they hold such a lead over Wishbone Ash

I like Rainbow, but I'm not much of a fan. As for Wishbone Ash, I have yet to discover what makes them so great. Always seemed like a more rock, poor man's Grateful Dead to me.

I'd go with Rainbow's "Rising" and "Long Live Rock and Roll".
