Topic: Anime/Manga Thread Posted: January 13 2007 at 10:40 |
I don't think i've seen a thread about this, so why not start for one . Which do you prefer, manga, anime or both and what's your favourite manga and /or anime ?
IMO there's some anime version which is better than it's manga ones, and vice versa. However, i prefer reading manga than watching anime though, because in anime the stories are often got cut, and/or modified (e.g. having extra episodes)
Favourite anime : Naruto, Yu Yu Hakusho, School Rumble
Favourite manga : Angel Sanctuary, Shoot! series, Fantasista, and lots more...

I found one, but it was over six months old so I think you're good. I don't watch anime/manga. I used to (well it was on late at night and nothing else was on so....) Does Dragonball Z count as anime?

yep, it's counted. In my country, anime don't shown on local tv very often, so we use to buy cds or dvds. as for manga, we had PLENTY here

I used to watch Dragonball Z all the time. Every chance I got. But then I found some bands I liked and halved my TV intake.

Another reason for my lacking interest in manga/anime was the rediscovery of Spiderman comic books.

Some of my favourite movies of all time are Anime. Spirited away and Mononoke hime are my favourite anime. I've also watched 30 or something episodes of rurouni kenshin, and then i stopped (mostly due to inaccesibility). Only manga i've read are Akira (really good one, highly recommended) and some kenshin (well.. okay, i guess). My main problem with Anime and Manga lies with it's often totally exaggerated cute-ness and that they always are supposed to make us cry our hearts out. Plus helium-voiced females don't really make it any more easy to bear, haha..

They are my favorite animated movie too Besides that, I don't watch too much anime or read mangas... I used to be a Dragonball fan as a child. I've also read Akira (which is excellent). Most mangas aren't my cup of tea though...

I prefer hentai
I'm not even really sure what anime or manga are exept asian style cartoons.
But when I was little I always watched Gundam Wings (is that anime? or manga? what's the difference between the two?)
And I really liked the movie Jin Roh too.

I've never understood the fascination with anime and manga. How much is there to Japanese culture that goes deeper and more sophisticated? Of course it's the best thing Japan offers youngsters these days and an excellent way of making profit for various makers of different anime, video game and manga series.
I've never understood the fascination with hentai either. What is real is not supposed to turn a person on, and I can't believe there are people who prefer this over genuine eroticism.

I like Naruto and Paranoia Agent. I liked S-Cry-Ed, but that's not on anymore.
I draw comic books in the manga style myself too, and not just those stupid drawings everyone draws and thinks they are good at. I respect the genre as probably the best hybrid of realistic and cartoony drawing styles.

Youngsters?!? I don't think you can blow it off as just that. In fact, in Japan, adults buy far more manga than children, and read it with huge followings.
And cartooning is a legitimate artform, speaking as a cartoonist myself, you will never know how valuable, insightful, and artful a comic can be until you actually try to make one yourself. You see how easy it is to make a good one, then get back to me.

Manga is the comic books, anime is the animated cartoon form.

I kind of want to get into manga. I like anime in certain ways, but not entirely. It's just daunting. I'm also considering how much of a geek I'm comfortable being. I already like prog, anime, and video games, and maybe taking the leap into manga will kill me.
