Scorsese's movies had these very aggressive parts from DeNiro and Keitel, not the cool Hollywood oriented violence, but the true destructive force that makes you scared and feeling bad, like violence should.

A quick search on Amazon shows that the movie I was thinking of is in fact "The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean" - ah well, my failing memory. I don't think this answer is right because I also found out it was released in 1972.
Darn good movie though!
