We have a band of Scots running the UK cabinet and far from decent most would agree - when they have a perfectly good (?) Scottish parliament too.

Definitely not. The Channel Isles and the Isle of Man (where I live) are not part of the United Kingdom, and never have been.

I approve this change. In fact the divisions are only administrative and in the sports. But if talks about nation to the hour it is just the change have done. And I approve.

Yep, for some reason the IOC uses GBR instead of UNK or UKI or any other group of 3 letters...

GBR means Great Britain and normally does not include NOrth Ireland.

United Kingdom does as well as the the Channel islands (Jersey, Guernsey, Sark) and Man.

The Pentangle, Clive Original Band, Incredible String Band, String Driven Thing, Donovan and many more. Scotland's major contribution has through folk rock.

Have anyone mentioned NAZARETH, also?

Northern Irish bands would come under UK, Republic of Ireland would be Ireland. Don't ask about what we'd do they are a mixture of both!

I think we'll worry about the Channel Islands etc. if they ever produce a prog band!

I prefer the seperate countries (Wales, England and Scotland), but bands like Marillion do have mixed UK nationalities, so I guess having seperate UK countries and a whole United Kingdom, option did seem odd at the time, even I didn't understand that first time round.

Question: If a band is from Northern Ireland would they be placed under "United Kingdom" or "Ireland".

Because there is a United Kingdom option I guess the Channel Islands and Isle of Man could count as "United Kingdom"

(But I've read in some encyclopaedias that the Channel Islands are not scrictly UK island, as the islands have there own laws and stuff).

Comments noted. It does mean though that Fish's Marillion era is not now under England, and that gentle Giant are more accurately reflected for example.

As long as the nationality is mentioned in the biography, a search on the home page will find the reference to it.

I guess if we were to get lots of genuine complaints with balanced, well argued reasoning then possibly,we might reconsider...IMO.

While I understand the rationale, I'm not so sure that it was all that confusing a concept. Although members may be "multi-national", I think its fair to say that most bands have tended to be reasonably comfortable with their "association" to a particular country.

in the search box of the menu from the home page, you type the country and it will show you all the bands registered from that country.
