Listening to them with headphones is the golden rule for listening to Godspeed. I agree with "She dreamt she was a bulldozer" part. One of the best climaxes I've heard in the whole genre! Good to see you enjoying Mogwai and Amon Düüll II too. Rico: I hope your computer gets better soon. I miss the album analisis you oftenly make. Keep the experimental journey alive! Proger: I have to be honest, I did heard the album once and from that listen I have to say that this album sounds better than "Those who tell the truth shall die...", but still isn't better than "The earth is not a cold dead place". Of course I'm only judging by one single listen so it's subject to change. I like their addition of a piano in their sound, I really enjoyed it in The Rescue EP. |

I saw a list posted of the best Post-Rock albums and songs this year or something either on the forum or in this thread. It was on a website devoted exclusively to Post-Rock (at least I think so). Does anyone know what I'm talking about and have a link?
All I remember about it is that Mogwai got number one instrumental song (or maybe it was regular), which was what led me to listen to them, and I wanted to look at the list again. |

Wait, Cham, EITS's new album is already out?! If it has the piano in it, then I'll be pleased as punch. That was such an exciting change in their sound that I loved in The Rescue. If it has a similar tone to that EP, then I think I'll enjoy the album - and if not, I still have that EP!

No, Freak. The album hasn't come out yet. I just listened to the leak once and that's how my opinion was based. Don't expect too much piano, I only started hearing it on the second side of the album. It sounds really nice although I don't remember if it sounds like in The Rescue. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

That's an interesting website. I didn't think 65daysofstatic would place nearly that high on the lists--but they deserve it.
BTW, their blog announced that their new album is coming April 30th. Yeah! I think I'm going to have to bit the bullet and import The Fall of Math soon in preparation. |

It's sad I have 1 mp3 sample i found (was it insound or betterpropaganda?) and I really like it but I have been able to locate or purchase anything buy them, but I want to hear more by them first.

Hm. yesterday as I was listening to Mr. Beast (I haven't had time to really digest any of the things I've downloaded, though), I noticed that there's a saxophone (I think) in the background of Auto Rock that seems to cut in and out intermittently at times during the second half-ish of the song--the strange part is that it seems kind of staticky, but this is a 200 kp/s VBR MP3, which really should be enough bits to prevent distortion, especially considering that Mogwai don't have like 50 instruments playing at once.
Can anyone with the album comment on that? Could it actually just be a distorted guitar? Because if I'm losing important noticable stuff on these MP3s (I'm not an audiophile) or gettting distortion then I don't think I subscribe to eMusic. Before this, I haven't been able to notice any really difference from the MP3 player and the CD (the CD sometimes sounds more "immediate", but I think that's because it's louder), although my headphones aren't the greatest. Hah, it must look like I'm really intent on derailing this thread. If I'm not careful we might start talking about MP3 encoding :) Back on topic more, One Time For All Time is great. It sucks that more people don't enjoy this kind of music. I feel like I would never be able to put together a great post rock band around here, because I only know 2 or three other guys who enjoy it.
I'm convinced more people would like it, however, if they heard it.
I played a couple days ago at this collective concert for my school disctrict.
I played in, for lack of a better term, a noise band. I guess you could call it drone, but noise band is closer to what it was. Now I consider all these genres (post rock, drone, experimental, noise) together because they work on the same philosiphy: it is all about the mood and the emotion and sound more than it is about the actual music. it is all out artistic expression, and beyond the limits of conventional music.
Either way, a lot of people really liked us. of course most people said we sucked and we were a waste of talent, but I talked to this one girl who said: "It was the best 10 minutes of my life, I've never herad anything like it, it was amazing"
And I'm sure that a lot of people would have a similar reaction if exposed to this kind of music.
SO.... We must make it our mission, OUR PURPOSE, to expose people to it's brilliance. Don't get discuraged when people say it is boring or fake or plain awful, just keep trying. AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE.

I agree. People should open their minds and explore a little. Take risks. Nothing bad is going to happen if they do.
I don't like when people close themselves when listening to something that isn't what they're used to and dismiss it as crap and there's nothing in the world that can change their opinion. Sadly there's little we can do about that kind of people. On the other hand I know a lot of people who are very open to try new stuff as long as it isn't overly strange from what they're used to and I like to share music with those type of people. I'm glad that all of my friends are like that and they enjoy pretty much every band I show them. But I don't think any of them will enjoy 10 minutes of pure experimental improv or noise. That may be too much for them. |

Sorry but I don't hear any saxophone on that song. The staticky things are the gutiars. I heard it on my computer and on my stereo with the cd and they sound quite alike.
I want to get that album, but im so full of music right now. That I don't want to hear much at the momment. Hopefully I can get through all of this music in a week or two and then check out new bands and albums. This is a discussion topic. You can talk whatever you want as long as we don't stray too far from the main theme like for example 2 whole pages talking about how cool etneis shoes are or how uncomfortable they can be or whatever.  |

Wonderful. It's a very nice and interesting mix of avant garde and post-rock. In their Predator or Prey album it the post-rock influence it's less present, but there are still some songs that sound like it. It's very playful and complex and I enjoyed their sound. They reminded me too the Cerberus Shoal mp3 I heard in the Temporary Resident website. Is Cerberus Shoal similar to Larval?
BTW I'm going to sleep now. School already started and I have to sleep earlier than before if I want to get up tomorrow. |

Of Cerberus Shoal I know well only The Land We All Believe In (the others I don't know too well). And it is very different than Larval. |
