I put yes, mostly cuase I've seen Styx, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, and
Led Zeppelin on this site. There are definately a good majority
songs that have progressive elements. Their latest, in my opinion
sold out, is not prog at all. But when looking at Inifinte,
Elements Part 1 and 2, Visions, and Episode, I'd have to say no more
than related. Good likage to Kamelot, Nightwish, and plenty of
other symphonic/power metal bands. Of all the symphonic/power
metal bands I've outside the ones on this sight however, Stratovarius
is the only one that comes close. I hope for all life Hammerfall
and Sonata Artica doens't apear on this sight.

I once was cool, but now I'm cold. Can you please turn up the heat.

I've listen to "Episode", and several songs from other albums and they're definitely not prog, they're Power Metal, sometimes as cheesy as hell.

I love them, but I'm undecided. I certainly wouldn't mind.

Yes - they were rejected unanimously. At first some of us (including myself) voted yes because they're as prog (or prog-related) as Nightwish, but then we decided that we would not take Nightwish as a point of reference, as we would not add Nightwish today if we had the choice (they were added long before genre teams were even considered).

^ Agreed ... like Stratovarius they have quite a few progressive moments, but these moments are not what they're about or what makes them great.

Stratovarius is a mix of Rainbow, Helloween and Yngwie Malmsteen and none of these influences of theirs justifies their inclusion...

I used to ba a crusader for the inclusion of this band (together with Sonata Arctica). After having heard most of their albums, I say no, they do not belong in the Progressive Metal category. Some albums have their progressive tendencies ( "Infinite" comes into mind) but as Mike said and I quote: these moments are not what they're about or what makes them great.

Styx is on this site?!
As much as I like Stratovarius, they are not prog enough for this site. Maiden influenced prog metal with Somewhere in Time and 7th Son, and their albums do have a lot of progressive elements for a power metal band. Purple is very much proto-prog because they are the pioneers of the neo-classical style, which is used extensively in prog metal and symphonic. Led Zeppelin quite frankly influenced everyone, and their pioneering experimentations with Eastern music secure them a place on this list. Stratovarius came after all this, they use the neo-classical guitars of Purple and (later) Maidenm but tehy are not prog

Cheers Mike,
Does the team have a view on them being added in the Prog related category?

I agree with what Jody said about that a while ago: The PM team should only be concerned with prog bands, not prog-related. Personally I don't feel the need to add modern prog-related metal bands to the website, and neither do the other members (I think).

For what I've heard no. Fine power metal, but no prog.
