Me and my band recently recorded a song, and we're trying to put it on CDs so that we can hand them out as promo discs, but there's one problem.
Its WAV file, and we can't put it on an audio disc unless its an MP3.
So my question to you, are there any programs that I can download that have the capability of changing a .wav file to a .mp3 file?

the nero utility can burn wav directly to CD
but if you're having problems, try using a freeware version of dbPoweramp and the mp3 lame codec. |

You can burn wav files on CD-R with Nero and, if you wish you can convert wav files into mp3 with various converters including CD-extractors

CDex will in addition to rip will do stand alone conversions from .wav to .mp3 or from .mp3 to .wav. I've done both no problems. |

I use MediaCoder. It'll turn just about any media file into just about any other media type. That includes video.

Here's another freeware burner that can create an audio CD from WAV files (amongst others):
Burn4Free See the 'How To' on that site for instructions. |

why mp3's? if your putting them on a disc why wouldn't regular cd music format be better? I mean that way people can easily listen to it. Just wondering.

Yeas, some options/facilities are quite hidden. Prompted by a couple of replies here I have scratched a little bit more beneath the surface..... |

Express Burn - integrates perfectly with Wavepad, as well as being a nifty piece of FREE standalone software.
Wavepad will also encode to pratically anything - in batches, if you use the FREE Switch encoder - but don't convert to mp3 before burning to CDA - you'll lose quality! |

Here you can get an evaluation version of dbPoweramp and in the Codec Central you'll find wav-to-mp3 conversion codecs and many more.

^I'm pretty sure both wav and mp3 codecs are preinstalled with dbPowerAmp. Great program by the way, I use it a lot.
