somewhere between 5 and 10. I liked Zaar in particular.

I don't like much neo-prog, prog-metal or post-rock so that excludes most relevant releases, I'm afraid.

Only 2. Ars Nova - "Chrysalis - Force For The Fourth" & Trespass - "Morning Lights". I'm mostly intrested in 60'-70' music in fact.

I bought and listened to over 20 released in 2006.  Bought and listened to a heck of a lot more this year that was released earlier though.

Sorry Mike -- not to be a stickler, but there isn't really an option there for me, as the poll jumps from "none" to "at least five," when I've maybe only heard one or two.

Perhaps I should select "none"? Confused

In any case, I'm at the low end of the scale. I tend to wait a while with new releases, and not too many of my old faves are still putting out quality material, anyway. I don't like to buy on pure speculation, so if I haven't heard it, I wait for reviews from people here whose tastes I trust. (Such was the case with "Power to Believe." I read that Maani & others liked it, so I bought it recently -- great stuff! My first Crimson purchase since Three of a Perfect Pair.Cool

(Even then, Fripp and Belew are hardly new to me.)

Would I be right in assuming that most of the new releases/new artists in prog these days are from the metal end of the spectrum? Ermm

(You know I prefer that 70s sound.)

Pete here is the top 100 prog releases from PA by ratings for 2006. Yes there are a lot of PM releases but there seems to be a good mix across the spectrum

I know ... metal had been around before I was even born, but you still think it's something for teenagers.

Well, if it is for teenagers - then why should there be more metal today than - say - 20 years ago? There aren't more teenagers today than there were back then. Face it, Metal is not really related to age. True, some metal is raw and unsophisticated and angry and rebellious and goes well with adolescence and puberty, but there's also the type of metal that is inherently sophisticated, polished, technical, artistic, experimental, complex etc..Big smile

For the record: Judging by the albums entered in the PA database, there are 58 prog metal releases of 2006, vs. 56 (30+26) in the genres of Art Rock and Symphonic Prog Rock alone. I won't bother to query the remaining genres ... I'd estimate that Prog Metal is about 25% of all the new releases of 2006, not more.Approve

Out of 86 albums I heard only 11 are from that end of the spectrum, so IMO you would not be right in this assumption.
