fly on the windshield, chamber, anyway and the lamia are my favourite, if i have to chose only one this should be ANYWAY!

In the Cage is my favorite

What an album for Peter Gabriel to exit on. I can't think of any other Prog band that consistently released five well-crafted albums in a row as Genesis did.(Trespass, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England By The Pound). And to end this incredible journey in Prog (and Peter Gabriel's career with them), with The Lamb.

Where as all the previous albums were very English (certainly in lyrical content), I've always felt The Lamb as very American, obviously with New York as it's setting. But the style and sound also became much more agressive, harder, grittier, and In yer face, without losing or sacrificing their usual high level of musicianship. Banks' incredible playing is the gold thread that weaves and binds from beginning to end. Only matched by Gabriel's best vocal range and performance to date. The whole package was so different from the "airy-fairy" musings of the past.

All the music and songs are great, especially, Silent Sorrow in Empty Boats, The Slippermen, The Chamber Of 32 Doors, yes Carpet Crawlers, of course. But it's Back In New York City I voted for this time. It's Gabriel at his griddiest and raw sounding, proving he had the chops as good as any. I don't think I've ever heard any other singer (at least in Prog) scream:

"And I'm not full of sh#t!"

I'd say "The Carpet Crawler" (a little obvious, maybe?). It features the only lyrics I totally appreciate in the album and a wonderful "crescendo" structure.

Well, since I'm bored of nearly every track on this album now, I'll say "In the Rapids", awesome track. Was going to pick either "Here Comes the Supernatural Anaesthetist", "The Lamia", or "it", but decided I liked Rapids better. Also, the end of Supernatural Anaesthetist is spine-tingling.

Also, why are so many people picking "In the Cage"? That one has become wayyyy overrated for me. It used to be the only track I would listen to when I first heard the album (by way of library), but now I'm sick of it and I definitely prefer ANYTHING from the 3-man-era over that.............*takes out sword and blocks various bullets fired by angry prog fans*

Great explosion, terrific song. The first Genesis I ever heard! I have to vote for it.

The Colony of the Slipperman is the best one in my opinion. Eight minutes of perfection in its three parts.

To be honest, I couldn't remember the tune of The Lamia right away. It's a big track, but it obviously didn't stick. I know it's a good album, but it doesn't appeal to me when I'm craving some Genesis so I probably haven't listened to it nearly enough.
