And I mean really listen, not just listening to music on the background. As For me I listen on my bed with the lights out and the volume on max. (as much I'm allowed anywayLOL)

So how do you do it?Wink
Yes it is!!

In my room at 2 am (as it is right now) with it quiet enough (so my parents don't realise I'm awake) but loud enough for it to fill my ears and let my thoughts focus on the music.

I do it with the volume up high when dark or light (natural light), and hope no one walks in...

I hate it when somebody walks in, it just ruins the moment, because most albums are made to listen to as a whole and you shouldn't interrupt.

New music, first time always and exclusively on headphones at night in complete and utter darkness. After the first listen, I can listen to them on my car or in my stereo. NEVER in the computer (unless I´m writing a review from time to time and want to remember something), in the computer I have the music I just don´t care to buy (non-prog).... Classical music only sitting down in my couch in my stereo. Don´t have an Ipod, never will.

Hehe, being a kid is tough. I'm not allowed to listen to my music loud when my parents are home because they detest it so much. But when they arent home, well let's just say I've blown out two setes of computer speakers and one pair of iPod headphones.Embarrassed

But my recrd player is still in good shape, phew! And my stereo hasnt imploded...yet...

Lately, I've only used my CD player and my record player without headphones, but when I'm back in school next semester, I'll probably start listening to music on my computer again. An volume depends on the specific record, of course. I get the most enjoyment from listening to something at night, typically, but it really depends.

I listen music in any moment at almost any place, but the most rewarding experience was passing by Ticlio - Parú at 4,818 Meters over the Sea Level (15,000 feet of altitude) driving alone in the car:

I have an exact photo taken from the exact place (This one is from a website), there in the middle of nowhere listening The Great Gig in the Sky or the complete The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is almost magic.

This high road lasts a bit more than 2 hours but I used to drive slowly to make it last more or even stopped the car, placed the speakers at the highest volume and smoked a cigarette, almost a religious experience.

Everything is silent, nothing bothers you except one truck or bus each 20 or 30 minutes, and the best of everything nobody bothering you with their opinions about how weird is your music.

Iván

EDIT: As a trivia, that small lake is known by people of the zone as the Dead French Lake, seems that a French citizen working in the mine or visiting the zone (as every urban myth, the details are not so clear) and afer a few drinks, lost a bet or simply was too drunk to think so he decided to take his clothes and swim in that lake.

Seems the guy didn't knew his heart was not 100% OK, so he suffered cardiac faillure and  died almost instantly.

don't turn up the volume Ivan, you might cause an avalanch with Clare Torry's wailing

I listen to my music in the car, and though my sister is driving she doesn't mind (when I put King Crimson she freaks out a bit ... she loves Jethro Tull and Pink Floyd though).... I also put music while I take a warm shower (I last through the entire album... wasting all the world's water supplies while putting JT or some fusion )

Not possible LOL, Ticlio is so high (15,000 feet of altitude) that the distance from the base to te top of the mountains is too short for an avalache.

Plus, since the last time I crossed that road (About a year being that it's 5 hours from the coast where I live) the mine has advanced the work and it's ruining all this beauty (Those lakes are green due to the remains of cooper thrown by Morococha workers), so more likely if there is a chance of an avalanche it would be caused by the mine.

One of the following:
  1. In my room, on the computer with headphones on.  I usually do this because the rest of my family isn't to crazy over prog.  And I love the sound of headphones for some reason.
  2. Listening to my CD player on speakers.  Usually at night, or whenever I'm doing something not at my computer but want to listen to music.
  3. Listening to the record player on speakers.  Same as above, but obviously whenever I want to listen to a record instead of a CD.  Most stuff I have on LP I don't have on CD (some exceptions), and I've been getting more and more vinyl lately.
