Whenever I get to a point where I think I can say these are them , 20 other bands come to mind ready to debate their exclusion. So today, Nick Lowe, Gary Numan, Osannah, Deep Purple, Zep, Motorhead, BTO, Beethoven, Accept, ZZTop, Univers Zero, Garolou, Harmonium, Offenbach, Porcupine Tree, Rolling Stones, PFM, Split Enz, Genesis, Dire Straits. Yesterday they could have been - Neil Finn, Crowded House, Megadeth, Metallica, Le Orme, Ange, XTC, Tragically Hip, Klaatu, 1755, Trust, 10cc, Los Lobos, Aerosmith, Angel City, Kiss, John Hiatt, John Mellencamp, the Hives, the Sex Pistols. Then I've got myself wondering if Big Sugar,Black Crowes, Public Enemy, Dave Brubeck, the Cars , Max Webster & Robert Charlebois etc ... shouldn't be in there , & suddenly I can't get to sleep Then to top that, I catch a Quebec talk show who have the starlet from the new Edith Piaf movie, & I find myself incessantly humming Offenbach's version of "L'Hymne a L'Amour". That's why I usually don't bother with top XX lists. I find they change too often. This week I'm listening to old Alice Cooper (pre-Hollywood Squares & golf celebrity), King Crimson, Extreme, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Michael Schenker, & some of Johnny Cash's American Recordings' albums. Next week, I don't know. But I do have a life, really I do. And a wife, a daughter, two dogs & the attendant debt we middle class folk need to enjoy our existence. As long as they don't make me listen to Nickelback or Canadian/American Idol ... I'm fine

And now I've just finished cleaning my beer home brewing kit, & I'm thinking, well , I forgot the Mars Volta, Raven, Robert Johnson, Iron Maiden, Hoodoo Gurus, Hindu Love Gods, Jellyfish & Queen; then things get difficult, cause I'm debating with myself. And we all can agree how long a battle of halfwits can go (one half & one half equals one wit, get it) without a resolution so, .............. My monitor has run out of pixels, whew, I jus

1. Van der Graaf Generator 2. Genesis 3. King Crimson 4. Pink Floyd 5. Yes
Pretty cliche I guess considering I'm into way more obscure bands, but I don't think these five will be topped in my personal opinion for quite some time...

My top five has changed around a bit since my last post three months ago. Currently, it looks something like this:
1. Hella
2. At the Drive-In (non-Prog, I know, but it seems to be all right to mention non-Prog bands)
3. Verto
4. Von Zamla
5. Shub-Niggurath
