I recommend this band called Yolk. I think they should be added actually.
Along with this french group Dudu Geva. You can find them on myspace and youtube. The stuff is really amazing and deserves to be added if you ask me. Seriously check this stuff out...it really has something special.

I have Yolk Die Vierte 2003 and like it a lot. Swiss avant-garde - very good and definitely should be here.

A couple of artists not represented here so far:
Bolt - US band that plays fusion/prog like music. Released the album "Movement and Detail" in 2005, rereleased on 10t in 2006. Unique sound, not quite my cup of tea but quite a few I know of enjoy them. Jim Gilmour - Keyboard-player from Saga, released his second (?) solo album late 2005, called "The Great Escape". Piano-driven music, sometimes jazzy, sometimes more pop-sounding - a few tunes eerily similar to old Tangerine Dream. Les Claypool - has released several solo albums. Don't know his earlier releases, but his latest "Of Whales and Woe" musically explores landscapes not too unlike Frank Zappa - although Claypool is a couple of thousand percent whackier. Neverdream - italian prog metal band, self-released a concept album based on the true life story of Christiane F. in 2005 or 2006. Not well enough produced for me to like it very much; but should appeal to others. And a great story for a concept album. Sandstone - (yet) another polish prog metal band. Have released one album so far (Looking for Myself); quite promising. Original lyrics, musically a sort of touched up radio-friendly DT. Pursuit - US christian prog band. Released the album Quest in 2005. Noit a good album, but containing good ideas. Could become an interesting band if they develop. Aaron English - folk/world music and prog mix on his 2002/03-album "From Source to sea", with some jazz elements in several songs as well. One of the most underappreciated releases in the new millenium. Henning Pauly - What I've heard of his solo material should place him in the prog related category. He toys around with musical genres, experiments a lot. If not progressive rock as such, he makes progressive music in the context of being quite original and creative. |

I was pursuing for some time now an album called Palimpseste by the French band Anamorphose. I have finallly gotten hold of it and I must say this is better than I had expected.
It is a live recording actually and it was released in 1986. It is mainly jazz-rock based with excellent toppings and great musicianship. The quality is rather good too. Truly one to hunt down, a great find. I hope to add them to PA soon. Another one I got acquainted with recently is the mixed band Carmen which released a Spanish theme album called -Fandangos in Space in 1973. Here is their PA page - http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_BAND.asp?band_id=668 Their bio: In the early seventies, the British-American group CARMEN broke new ground in rock music, combining the British flair for progressive rock with traditional Spanish folk themes into a very fresh, energetic and powerful new mix. The sound is centered around guitar, keyboards are used subtly but to good effect. On the whole, they are a rather hard band to describe ... "They sound only like themselves, because it IS so unique". Some vague comparisons could be made to JETHRO TULL, MEZQUITA (some of the Spanish themes), and TRIANA (the flamenco/prog combination). CARMEN released three albums only: "Dancing On A Cold Wind", "Fandangos In Space", and "The Gypsies". It's hard to say which of the first two albums is better, both are excellent starters. Two great tastes that taste great together. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED...! Here is Erik's review: CARMEN — Fandangos In Space Review by erik neuteboom (erik neuteboom) SPECIAL COLLABORATOR Symphonic Prog Expert Many years ago a friend advised me to buy this album (funny, I own another LP version, from Paramount Records) because he knew I am a fan from flamenco (an ‘aficionado’). I’m still very grateful to him because “Fandangos in space” is one of the most amazing blends of folk and progrock, not to compare with other ‘folk-prog’ gems from LOS JAIVAS or TRIANA. The band features members from Spain and the UK, including David Allen (vocals, 6-string electric guitar and flamenco guitar) and ex-Jethro Tull drummer John Glascock (what’s in a name?!). The album delivers the unique sound of Carmen in eleven varied compositions: often an exciting blend of rock (fiery electric guitar, powerful rhythms) and flamenco (guitar, handclapping) and an emphasis on the vocals featuring the very distinctive voice from David Allen (from a cynical undertone to a bit theatrical) and great vocal harmonies from most members, at some moments even in the Spanish language. A few songs or parts contain the captivating art of the flamenco guitar, including the tremolo technique (evoking “Recuerdos de la Alhambra” from Tarrega). Other tracks feature wonderful violin- Mellotron waves or some synthesizer flights. The music from Carmen sound not always accesible (you have to be up to the vocal overtones and flamenco rhythms) but it’s such a dynamic and adventurous prog, SPLENDID!! As a proghead, a Tronmaniac and an aficionado I’m very excited about this album (as you must have noticed in my review). But when I took for the first time a look at the back cover picture from senora Angela Allen, I was stunned: what a gorgeous lady, dressed in a beautiful flamenco robe and .. she plays the Mellotron, THIS GAVE SUCH A SENSATIONAL EXTRA DIMENSION TO THE MUSIC WHILE LISTENING TO THIS ALBUM!! www.backgroundmagazine.nl Posted Wednesday, August 10, 2005, 11:02 EST | Permanent link Their website: {URL=http://www.fandangosinspace.com/]http://www.fandangosinspace.com/[/URL] Very enjoyable!
