If you meet a type of a file that you don't know then here's a useful link:

"Music is much like f**king, but some composers can't climax and others climax too often, leaving themselves and the listener jaded and spent."

These are playlists. They simply contain lists of filenames (one file per line), and if you click them all the files are played by winamp.

In the old days of Winamp 1/2 these files were all you had to organize your files, except for some instable plugins. Today every player app comes with a fully fledged media library, and nobody needs playlists anymore.Smile

WMP can read .m3u files
The scattered jigsaw of my redemption laid out before my eyes
Each piece as amorphous as the other - Each piece in its lack of shape a lie

I never use them, so I don't know. But you can easily create them with Winamp.

I don't really want to download winamp. Anything else work? WMP? Realplayer?

Ian, you should be able to create playlists with WMP -

To create a playlist

  1. On the File menu, click New Now Playing List.
  2. In the List pane, click Now Playing List, point to New List, and then click Playlist.
  3. Drag items from the Contents or Details pane in your library to the List pane to add them to the new playlist.
  4. In the List pane, click New Playlist, and then click Save Playlist As.
  5. In the Save As dialog box, type the playlist name in File name.

Your new playlist is added to the My Playlists category in the Contents pane.

Note%20Image%20 Notes

  • You can select several items at once and then drag them to the List pane. To select adjacent items, press and hold the SHIFT key while selecting. To select nonadjacent items, press and hold the CTRL key while selecting.
  • By default, playlists are saved with a .wpl extension in the My Playlists folder, which is usually located in the My Music folder. You can also save playlists with the following extensions: .m3u, .asx, .wax, or .wvx.

I use Winamp meself - WMP jumps all over the place when I play MP3 or WMA files on it.
