"Good" or "Bad" looking are only relative values; the definition changes all the time (see ladys on renaissance paintings and compare their bodies with actual "good looking" girls; then do a light research comparing different countries "good looking" contemporary girls). So, they must have a reason to weare those masks, but, according to this definition, and given that they also work with aesthetics and semiotic, their look is probably meaningless. Plus, for blind people, they must be something amazing to touch.
