it's not post-rock, thats why, lol Ulver's later material can be described more as experimental/avant-garde music than anything |

^^^ I agree.
And speaking of album releases, There are rumors of a new Do Make Say Think album coming out in February. Let's hope the rumors are right! They, like EITS, haven't made an album since 2003. I'm looking forward to 2007 now with Explosions in the Sky and Do Make Say Think albums coming that year. |

Well, though technically under "progressive metal," I've lately been getting into Pelican. They remind me of Mogwai's heavier moments, with many nods to Godspeed and EitS....but they're heavy most of the time. Either way, good stuff

Pelican is pretty great. They actually have a pretty solid following of people who are strictly post-rock fans and not metal fans at all. I read an article where one of the band members talked about how people who talk to them at shows can't seem to understand that when they wear Def Leppard shirts on stage, they aren't being ironic. ![]() but kudos to them for bringing metal to a crowd that would otherwise not appreciate the genre at all! |

Rumours? It said on their site they'll post the tour dates as soon as they release their album in (I think) Spring '07. |

I'm fairly certain my next purchase will be Spiderlands by Slint. I want to see what all the hubub is about. However, I found out my Best Buy carries a LOT of EitS, and I was wondering if I should get one of their first 2 albums instead (I have The Earth... and it's a masterpiece).
Btw, Winter Hymn Country is one of my favorite post-rock albums now. |

Definitely. They're actually my favourite post-rock group at the moment. I love the jazziness which is sorely lacking in most post-rock. Does anyone know any other jazzy post-rock bands BTW? I'm fairly familiar with the genre, so Tortoise, The Samuel Jackson Five etc. are already known to me. I've been trying to find some Natsumen and These Monsters... but no luck as of yet. |

Ah, that is what I love about the band. It sounds so real! I'm going to buy that, and hopefully the new album as well! Explosions In The Sky just released a song from the new album on Pitchfork. It sounds pretty good, if a bit familiar, but it's in mp4 format for some reason!
Anyway, I found this in another thread, and it gave me a good chuckle:
"All that post-rock thing, a little too serious, too grandiose."

Aside from the ones already mentioned in this post. I know of 12Twelve and World's End Girlfriend. I'm pretty sure you already know of World's End Girlfriend. I posted a review from some website a page or two ago for 12Twelve's 2006 release, L'univers. I personally enjoy this album. It does dabble in some songs, but if you like Circle then I don't see this as a problem. I've also heard of a band named The Cinematic Orchestra that have a similar jazzy sound, but I still haven't heard of them. |

It's been long, hello again.
![]() Perhaps it isn't the most adequate time for some moral insinuations, but I find pleasure in saying how some artists make a lot of albums, sometimes carrying a lot of weight, sometimes being only...a lot of albums, while some artists do one minded effort in a flash...and things look great. For the e/pr standards, I think that Bell Orchestre's album is brilliant and representative. For the genreless ears, it's a very good listen. Not ambient trible music, chamberry, definately not. ![]() though there are some tiny things that could just call towards some, I don't know, voodoo trance, sound hunt or acoustic nature/natural ![]() The band's name says the band's brand. The album's titrage does even more. We're talking orchestral in something I consider impressive. Bell fashion, think EitS. Experimental delicate mood, with creases. Out of what I listened so far, BO happens to be of some originality. Or it's only attractive enough to make you think of something else than stereotypes. Which is good! Beautiful music, top the list of qualities. Everything is so plain musical, though minimal, and thoughtful, despite having style renders. On a tempered and colorful line, that you wonder what happened to the traditional hiccups. Not that you would be frustrated. I loved the harmony and I felt enchanted by many subtleties. Just to mention the violin charisma in Les Lumieres, Pt.1 or the truly experimental sound manipulation down the epic finale. A mirage, not one to collapse on you, but to make you surrounded by music of some refined air...or vanity, heh. Perhaps not speechless act, but something like this portrays the e/pr showdown with grandeur. It's a small thing, but it doesn't deserve a place in the shadows. Real thumbs up for a gem. |

![]() ![]() Here's a short bio I wrote for Tone, a band we're trying to add. TONE is a collective from Washington DC with members of GOVERNMENT ISSUES and UNREST and others. Their music revolves around five-six guitar players, a drummer and a bass player. In their 2000 release, "Structure", They used orchestral instrumentations along with their full on guitar attack and in their recent releases they added another drummer into the band. Their sound is similar to that of Glenn BRANCA and Rhys CHATHAM and their guitar ensembles. They're more energetic in their sound than most bands from the genre. Their sound has evolved through the years. In their later albums TONE where a more refined sound echoing MONO, EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY and others, but with "Solidarity" they use cacophony more than their later albums. With this approach instead of making their music more complex, they make it more emotional and still be accessible. Highly recommended for fans of post-rock, post-metal and fans who want a little more speed and energy in their genre. |

TONE is great!
![]() I just got ahold of Yndi Halda for the first time, and I must say it is a treat! It's like all the best parts of Explosions in the Sky, Mono, and Sigur Ros all rolled up into one. |
