Topic: time of day, language/science Posted: November 03 2006 at 08:21 |
I'm interested in whether people are night or day people here. Since prog is music of the mind, I expect it's mostly morning people (and therefore math/science). But you tell me.

Could you explain this sentence further? I wouldn't call myself a morning person, but not really a night person either. I love sleeping! And I'm a certified math/science geek - but I also love history.

It should actually be the other way around. Math and science are both done better in the morning. Also, since prog is almost a science, I expect more math and science people to like prog (and therefore more morning people).
It made sense in my head.

I am a scientist but I do self studying of history and philosophy (and know 3 languages, 2 of them are native tongues).
I have no problem raising up early in the morning, and in fact those are the hours in whcih I am at my most concentrated, but I prefer the wee-we hours between 1-4 (which in the army and in several jobs I was in, were the hours I was constatnly up).
So all four options for me....
My wife (who listens to prog as well), is a night persona and an historian and is studying several laguages.
SOme other people I know, who love prog, are almost all night persons and mostly are on the "humanity" side of the academia.

I don't see the connection between morning/night and science/languages.

What do you mean with science? Isn't history also a science? Anyway, I voted for the last option.

By sciences, I mean biology, chemistry, physics, geology, astronomy, and magic. You know, real stuff that matters today, not old dead people.
Nothing against history though.

Last option. I suck at math and like night much more than day.

Again, math and science are more "objective" oriented activities. Music is about content, that content is potentiated by sound. If otherwhise, the result is actually a bunch of numbers with no internal logic that provides the sustent for a new symbol (song, simphony, whatever).

"Real Stuff". Please notice that your idea of real is also depending of the time you are living in, the common concepts of your culture, etc.

Hmmm... I'm a night person who hates math and languages. I'm not quite sure what to vote for.
