As the owner of two sheds, I wonder if you can clarify this for me...
Is the installation of a wasps' nest still compulsory? |
I believe that it is an optional extra

I leave the site for a couple of days and lo and behold: we're still talkin' sheds??? I want to get into this Dr. Who discussion, some of you are gonna have to educate me about this series. Why do they keep changing Dr's all the time? How long has the series been running? And can someone PLEASE GET THAT DAMN THEME SONG OUT OF MY HEAD!!!

Did you know...
In one of his many guises over the years, Doctor Who actually invented the shed!

The Tardis is a shed? But it's not green and does not have the aforementioned objects necessary for it to fit the description of shed!

The Doctor is a Time Lord and is cursed with the "gift" of regeneration; ie. every time he dies, he regenerates into a new "form" or body. It's really just a way to allow new actors to take over in the series. The series has been running on and off since the 60s! As for getting the song out of your head... good luck!

I grew up watching the 70s/early 80s Doctor Who with Tom Baker, and I loved the series! As a child the fake props and monsters actually seemed very realistic and scary to my young and fertile imagination! (As adults we turn into terribly boorish sceptics). Although I would have to vote for the old series as being the classic and original, I think they've done a great job with resurrecting the series, and look forward to more episodes! As for Torchwood, do you mean the new series spinoff with Captain Jack? I haven't seen it, only watched a preview, and it looks like it might be worth checking out, but it seems a lot darker and less humourous than Doctor Who (I might be wrong). One of the first few things I saw in the preview was a guy getting his jugular bitten and fake blood spraying everywhere, and women having lesbian alien sex. I think that this is just a cheap ploy to get a larger audience. One of the things I love about Doctor Who is that they keep it (moderately) tasteful and don't get too much into sex or gore. Also, I love the humour in the series. You need humour when dealing with dark subject matter as it provides relief during those moments of high tension. Plus I love British humour. As for Billie Piper, yes she is quite cute, but I wouldn't say she is drop dead gorgeous.

Yay! Another former MUD addict... ...let me tell you I've wasted many valuable hours of my life on one MUD in particular, Aldebaran (have you heard of it?). Very fun and addictive! Although lately I've hardly visited except briefly to check boards. It's been having a lot of crashes and player participation levels have dropped drastically. Also, with my studies I really can't afford to spend hours on it. Although I do somehow find ways to spend hours on a certain Progressive Rock forum... Oh yes, and good old Telnet! I used Telnet for years despite protests from savvy client specialists using all the latest in mudding technology, pretending to be a "purist" when I was really just lazy. I finally got something called PuTTY which was much more user-friendly. Anyway, enough reminiscing!

diddly dum diddly dum diddly dum diddly dum woo-ooo. Sorry. Doctor Who has been running since the early 1960s, although there was a big gap before Christopher Ecclestone. They keep changing doctors all the time because the actors get fed up doing it and move on to something else. The afore mentioned Mr Ecclestone only managed 1 series.

Dr. Who emerging from his shed disguised as a Tardis....
......seriously, folks, any self respecting WHO fan knows the Doctor "regenerates" himself when his contract comes up for renewal and the actor leaves because.....
a) a good sitcom starring with Christopher Timothy comes up.
b) the chance to dress up as a turnip seems more challenging.
c) the chance to appear in a major Hollywood horror movie comes up after all these years.
d) fear of being typecast as Doctor.
e) gets bored with babe companion.
f) musical differences.

Love shack, baby? Tardis: well at Uni, we had to use Telnet, but for a while, on my 56k dialup, I used Wintin. I have PuTTY somewhere for use with something else and didn't realise I could play MUDs on it. The one I used to play was Distant Lands. It wasn't too bad actually, but I ended up chatting for ages and only got to about level 60 or so (plus I had about 5 other characters too). Then I stopped playing it for ages, my character got wiped and eventually I started again and I've since quit again. It's too time consuming and less and less people played it. The sad thing is, my character was in a guild and had a wedding planned with another character, when I quit, so I'm not sure what came of everything. Talk about sad! I don't like Billie Piper at all. She's not even that attractive. I think it's partly because she's from my home town and partly because she was married to that talentless idiot, Chris Evans. Torchwood looks much more interesting, but I doubt I'll watch it. I used to watch the old Dr. Who's with Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred in the 1980s.

I'm not sure about the new Dr.Who, i do miss the rubber monsters, the squeaky rocks, and the first series in black and white was really scary - i suppose there is a new legion of fans supporting the show now, including my 8 year old nephew who is an avid fan! The new Doctor reminds me too much of Jim Dale in "Carry on up the Tardis" though, i liked the last one.

Well, all that sounds complete wibble to me - are you speaking English?
Incidentally, may I be the first one to point out that Torchwood is an anagram of Doctor Who?
Also - Time And Relative Dimension In Space is actually an anagram of SHED (well, in a curious alien dialect, anyway ), which in itself is an anagram of:
Stuff
Hidden
Externally to one's
Domicile
...sort of.

I thought that TARDIS stood for "Tat and Rubbish Distributed In Sheds".
Doctor Who is also an anagram of Cow trod ho if that's any help.

Well since we seem to be unable to shed the subject, let's shed some light on hit songs with the word shed :
1- Don't shed a tear
2- Shed I stay or shed I go
Let's see who can come up with others...

No, we already knew that!
I reckon Captain Jack's new girl is much nicer than Billie Piper. And she snogs girl aliens!
