All the others are new to me... except Jannick Top, but I don't know his music either.

Lindsay Cooper plays bassoon and she was a member of Gong and Comus (played on their second album), plus many other projects.

Greaves and Blegvad are ex-National Health, so I suspect they're prog.  I think Wayside sell their album.

Greaves and Blegvad's mighty Kew Rhone is already here in John Greaves' discography. I hear there's a rather splendid review...

As for Yoshida-san, I know Korekyojin (include) and Akaten (unsuitable IMO). Seikazoku should also be included I suppose, though I don't think anything is in print. And there's more, but it will have to wait because I'm off to bed.

Anyway, I will post the list here as it is divided in their website (and many of them I have not heard of, so I can't say anything about whether it should be in or not).

There are some bands here I think need to be added, but for the most of them, I hope other people here can give us their thuoghts on the matter. I will post later those I think need to be added.

H O L Y  S H I T !  That's quite a list!

O wait, it's not that bad: Cro Magnon and Panzerpappa are already in the archives, Jannik Top is on the bands to add master list, and Offering is on the chart. See? That leaves us with much less! LOL

LOL

Ahh, ok, so it's not that bad as I initially thought.

Anyway, we have some assignments to tackle before this list. We can add it to our ZART list, but I bet it would take us quite some time to find samples for all.
So till then, we do have bands we can add that have already been approved and we have enough info.

Assaf,

Scrub The Long Hello, Panzerpappa, Cro Magnon and Jannick Top off the list and that makes it a little shorter.

Indeed, I shall try and listen to Le Silo later and tick them off (or not) on the list.

Assaf, by the way, in regards to that second Vytas Brenner album... I don't have it (due to issues, now resolved)... Wink

I need to write some reports to Iván about him, once I've listened to his albums.

Yes, I've found that top link before, it's excellent.  Lots of Zorn stuff on there.  It's all eYe projects isn't it?

I'll try and listen to something from the list soon and do my bit for the ZART!

"ZubiZuva". / Probably not fit for the site, but hey. 3 voices. that's it. Others guys from Acid Mothers Temple

"Fujii Satoko Quartet" / Worked on 4 albums with her. Two of which are just drums and piano. An Improv Jazz/fusion deal.

"SLASH-Kikuchi Masabumi" / Three albums by them... Violent Acoustic Jazz Piano Trio

Maybe not fit for the site. but just so we know.

Running all risks of "blind" (or "deaf") purchase I decided to buy "Kamihitoe" album by Japanese band called DJAMRA. It was described as RIO to me, so I opted for the purchase despite having no information about this album and the band whatsoever. And I must tell you I'm not regretting it. It's very jazzy, quite complex album with constant changes of rhythms and patterns, quite melodic at times. I'd rather call it jazz album with some RIO tendencies. Very good !!!

I found their site (it is given on the cover-sleeve) www.djamra.com

Ok, I've gone through the list and picked out those I'm at least reasonably familiar with.

ZNR - Satie-esque duo, on my list to be added

Amygdala - Japanese zeuhl, use of drum programmes put me off

Motor Totemist Guild - big band avant prog, dense arrangements - recommended

Unrest Work and Play - part of the Recommended Records family, excellent from what I remember

Zaboitzeff, Thierry - ex Art Zoyd, quit 1997. Not familiar with his solo work, but he was responsible for my favourite AZ piece.

Chenevier, Guigou - ex Etron Fou. Recommended

Volapük - low frequency ensemble, Etron Fou offshoot. Recommended.

Zypressen - Brilliant Japanese chamber prog. Recommended.

Dallio, Patricia - Art Zoyd pianist and (latterly) composer - not familiar with solo work

Moore, Anthony - Slapp Happy/Henry Cow pianist/songwriter. Some experimental early 70s work, collectors only.

Cooper, Lindsay - ex Henry Cow, News From Babel. Worthy of inclusion.

Curlew - featuring Tom Cora (Skeleton Crew) among others. Recommended

Richard, Ferdinand - ex Etron Fou, sometime Fred Frith collaborator. Recommended

How could I not have noticed Thierry Zaboitzeff? I'm not familiar with his solo work either, but I know his name from Art Zoyd of course (I think he even is the "main man" of the band if you look at their history).

I have never heard of ZNR, but, Chris: "Satie-esque"? As in Erik Satie? Shocked

No, Brian Satie LOL.

ZNR's 2 albums are things of timeless beauty - expect long, long, detailed reviews if I ever add them. There are all kinds of echoes of Les Six in there, with a bit of Captain Beefheart thrown in ... you just have to hear it.

As for M.Zaboittzeff, he was merely a player on early Art Zoyd albums, only really coming into his own as a composer circa Phase 4. Etat D'Urgence is one of his, if memory serves, and that is my favourite AZ composition of all. On later albums he and Hourbette seemed to have more of a 50/50 writing split, although my impression was that Zaboitzeff was always the junior partner. A,azing bassist as well - he was a one man rhythm section on those early albums.

Thanks for clearing the matters with those bands, Chris.
I read about ZNR in other sites and got the impression I should listen to it, and now that you recommend it, it has risen in my wishlist to higher rank.

I was also wandering if anyone knows something about the Cuban band Música Urbana? I am intrigued as to how they would sound.

In addition to my previous post, I want also to ask about the French band La Sociיtי des Timides א la Parade Des Oiseaux.
Anyone knows more about them and where we can hear samples?

Some links:

Founded in 1984, this band was founded by J (guitars), Jim B (guitar) and Pascal Godjikian (vocals) and in 1985 drummer Patrice Babin joined in.
For their 1st LP, they added more musicians on instruemnts like sax, trumpet, clarinet violin and keyboards.

Waiting for your input.

They're Spanish, actually. The two main members are Feliu Gasull (Spanish guitar) and Joan Albert Amargos (acoustic piano, Fender piano, Hohner clavinet) and a number of additional band members on electric guitars, acoustic guitars, bass and contrabass, and percussions. Instrumental with very strong ties to traditional Spanish music. It's got a very strong RIO flavor, traditional Spanish themes & instrumentation, and very quick, stop-and-start compositions extremely well played. The main composer, Amargos, is a classical composer (he had a later album of his classical works on a big classical label but I can't put my hands on it right now). It's great stuff. I'm aware of two disks - "Musica Urbana" and another called "Iberia", I think, that I've been trying to find forever (anybody??).

Also recommended is their duo album, "Feliu i Joan Albert", which is essentially the same group. This one was just released in the last year or two by PDI (as were the two MU albums). Absolutely essential stuff, if you're in to that sort of thing.

Mark
