Topic: QUEEN! Posted: October 23 2006 at 16:46 |
Well, I have to go with the poem option, since I did do just that before I knew of Queen (well, before I knew they had a song called prophet song).
How's about you?

Ok, who picked that option, besides me, because someone did?

Two or three hard rock albums at the onset - followed by the gradual "sell-out" where they lost all integrity for the sake of making music for the masses and became a pop-rock band. Why would anyone think of them as prog? Beats me. But then why have 10CC, Roxy Music, Kate Bush, etc etc etc............................

Stupid poll. but neways, queen II is an excellent album, and they have many good songs, but few strong albums.

The first 4 albums were good. A night at the opera was their peak, and then they slowly just went downhill.

I think they're overrated too. THeir early work is good but later albums are nothing interesting IMO.

You didn't really cover that many options in your poll, man. And Queen is definitely prog.

Hey, mates, let's start a band! Let's see, we want to be hugely successful, so let's think of a couple of very popular current acts, blend their styles together, and call it our original vision.....
I think I've got it, Brian! Let's rip off David Bowie and Led Zeppelin....
That's it!! Glam and Hard Rock that's somewhat progressive!!! It can't miss...

I just watched a video I bought at a video/CD/DVD market entitled Live At The Rainbow 1974, what an excellent and thrilling performance, in those days Queen rocked but they also put some exciting progressive elements in their songs and the pianoplay by Freddy Mercury is at some moments very compelling. In fact this era generates more excitement to me than the acclaimed Bohemian Rhapsody era, I love tracks like Father To Son, Liar, Keep Yourself Alive (splendid guitar riff), White Queen and Killer Queen (great lyrics).

Hmmm..so many choices. I would have picked several of them. In order of my strength of opinion:
1. the best band ever 2. not prog 3. brian may is the best guitarist ever
They're not prog, and their not listed as prog. All is as it should be. Great band though, and Brian May has a very distinct sound. He holds the 70's hottest guitar...
