Strange thread... I'll assume that you're comparing two "new singer" first album by this two bands... My vote goes to Burn, simply one of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time. Although I love "Firefly", can't say the same about this album.

   LOLLOLLOL you got it right this time. Anyway they're two classic albums and from the perspective you've just noticed, it's only logical to create this poll, ain't it?

Well, this is a hard choice. Both albums feature a complete stylistic reshuffle. My affection for 'Firefly' will prevail just to give it one vote.

I vote for "Firefly" because all songs are good, some, like "Hanging Tree", "Been Away Too Long", "Wise Man", "Rollin' On" and "Sympathy" are great.

"Burn" is almost equally good, but songs like "Might Just Take Your Life", "Lay Down, Stay Down" and "What's Goin' On Here" slightly "spoil the party".
Who are you and who am I to say we know the reason why... (D. Gilmour)

I agree that 'What's Goin' On Here' is a bit filler but the worst offender is that dumb jam 'A200' which was named after, shall we say, an remedy for an adult affliction. Pretty poor track.

I really wish you would stop mixing proto-prog and prog related bands in with prog bands in these polls.

Deep Purple is Proto-Prog and should not be discussed in here,but Heep is Art Rock and can be discussed in Prog Polls.

Since Purple is a choice off to the Proto and Prog Related Lounge this goes.

Let's simply call both bands 'rock' and proceed the dicsussion.

Especially if we'll take a look at the history of both bands:
- after Gillan's departure, as everyone knows, David Coverdale, the singer with comletely different voice, joined Deep Purple;
- in 1976, when David Byron has been fired, Uriah Heep made the same thing as DP, i.e. instead of searching for Byron-alike voice they invited John Lawton (baritone); BTW partly according to Roger Glover's recommendations.

So for both bands albums 'Burn' and 'Firefly' were the beginning of "new life".
