Now here's a band who could really top off an album.  I mean, Tommorrow Never Knows, A Day in The Life, The End; how does one choose?  (I realize that on this particular website it was probably pointless to even mention the first five albums, but for democracy's sake I did anyway.)

Anywho, I'm gonna have to vote for A Day in the Life.  Not to say that The End isn't one of the most moving moments in music's history, that Tommorrow Never Knows wasn't a production marvel of it's time, or that Good Night isn't a perfect way to round off an epic like the White Album; but that big orchestral crecendo at the end of ADITL is just so mind-blowing, and Lennon's voice is beautiful in that song.  It's the Lennon song that, beyond any other, really makes me sad that he died so young.  I'm sure a number of you, even those who like me were not even alive when John passed on, can relate to those feelings.

So... what's the deal with you?

Her Majesty/The End, 'cause it really was 'the end' since Abbey was the last studio recording they made together (though Let it Be was last to come out) and if I'm not mistaken, 'Her Majesty' was a 'hidden track' on the LP.

"The End" It was just a great jam out, and a perfect way for them to wrap it up.

"The End/Her Majesty" is a great way to end their last album, but there's really only 2 contenders, "Tomorrow Never Knows" and "A Day in the Life". I've gone for the latter.

Most effectively for whom? If it's for me (I mean, for my taste), then "Tomorrow Never Knows", since I prefer Prog to non-Prog.

Of course, semantically "The End" fits the poll question the most.

Although A Day In The Life is one heck of a last song (and one of the best Beatles-recordings of all time, IMHO), my vote goes to Her Majesty, because it's
a) funny
b) surprising
c) shows that The End isn't always really the end.

"A Day In The Life" is probably one of their best songs period, but in the context of their history, "The End/Her Majesty" is just the perfect closer.

First of all, there's the fiery jam where they all get to show what made them so great as a band and as individuals. Then there's the sentimental farewell, which may sound a bit too over the top till "Her Majesty" makes its appearance - classic Beatles humour, that moment. The perfect way to close a chapter of music history.

Has to be A Day In The Life. Tomorrow Never Knows is a close second.

The End/Her majesty. I love sgt pepper's A day in the life (my favorite beatle song) but everytime I listen Abbey Road I get emotional because it was their last album.

Easily "A Day In The Life" for me, which happens to be my favorite Beatles song.
