Does anyone know the relationship between Island and EG Records. King Crimson were signed to Islands but produced records for EG (it says on SABB). Island seem to have signed a lot of progressive rock bands.

Island Records was founded to produce and promote West Indian music into the UK in the mid 60's (ska, reggae) and then founder Chris Blackwell found it easy to expand by licensing independent music companies' recordings e.g. EG (e.g. Krimson, Manzanera, Bruford), Witchseason  (Fairport, Sandy Denny, RichardThompson), Chrysallis, for distribution and promotion. These labels were own/run by young independent entrepenuers and inevitablly these guys had their ears to the ground and were ready to go with the underground and progressive music scene as it developed. Sorry to keep refering to Joe Boyd's autobiog White Bicycles, but there you will discover Boyd was forced to sign over Witchseason as a business to Blackwell, during a period of indebtedness. In the meanwhile Chrysallis became a self-producing independent label  mid-70's.

^ thanks for the info ....

I believe Fripp is more than a little rude about EG records these days feeling that they treated him unfairly (tho' Fripp is a pretty savvy businessman himself).
