Nah,I'd have gone for the quick buck.....

The point is that musicians like Pip pay their dues and hope to get success.They serve an apprenticeship after years of practice and dedication.If they make a financial success of their art then that is a bonus.

A word from Robert Dansereau who is in the FMPM organization of the festival in Montreal on Sept 15 and 16 where Hatfield was scheduled to play:
 
I just got word from Leonardo this morning that
Hatfield and the North will be coming to Montreal.
Phil, Richard and Alex will be accompanied by their
friend Mark Fletcher, who substituted occasionnally
for Pip.

This will be a very emotional show, and we intend
to do something to commemorate Pip's memory.

'Hatwise Choice' is my favourite album of 2005 and my favourite live album of all times.
My second best live is 'Playtime' by National Health.
I met Pip after some excellent gigs with In Cahoots n mid 90s at the Vortex Club.
He wasn't a banger but a very melodic, intricate drummer, great composer and lyricist with a great sense of humour and far too young to go.

Ironically I have just located and bought Hatfield and the North's first album on CD and loaded it onto the walkman.  I shall listen to it on my way home this evening.
When people get lost in thought it's often because it's unfamiliar territory.

I'm afraid we're going to be losing many of our favourite musicians from the 1960s and 1970s in the next decade or so... But Pip Pyle was truly special. Apart from anything else, he played a crucial role in two classic prog bands which never recorded a dud album (and that's incredibly rare): the HATFIELDs and NATIONAL HEALTH. Thank you, Pip!

Well said! It's true, many of our heroes of old will soon be passing... we should cherish what they have given us. Don't forget his work with early Gong. I love his playing with Hatfield also.
