Dream Theater. I bought Images and Words, and I just didnt like it. The guitarist is amazing, but I cant stand the singer... his voice is just bland, boring, and doesnt fit the music well for me. to me it sounds like they just try to be flashy and progressive, instead of trying to make good music

Gracious ....just too many notes that go nowhere.
Marillion, have most the early ones..even "Season's End" yet still does not grab me.
Magma: sorry for my opinion but mainly noise.
Frank Zappa: have "Lather" and two of the ones w. Mothers of Invention; yet fail to hear why is so praised by all. Disjointed music .
IMO anyway

As long as it's Prog, I'll get into most anything given a little time and patience.

Well, the witch sing style of Rush
Anyone who show boring acrobatic scales ( they have no fine music intuition so the vaccum must fill with anything)
Marillion, very soft
anyone that play agro metal and all that sh*t related

This thread makes me cry for I cant understand how anybody couldnt get into those bands mentioned here. HOw can you dislike music because of growls? Thats stupid, real art isnt about "uh I like that voice" or "uh I like that melody" it is about expression, passion and understanding!! " to like" is the wrong approach to prog in my eyes |
Expüression, passion, understanding... right, but wether he likes it or not is the final verdict from the listener - and it's YOU who doesn't understand... it's the right approach, always, like it or not...
Different tastes are an important part of life, they lead to variety and, in the end, to NEW things, so nevermind if anybody doesn't like a favourite band/musician of yours or even your own stuff if you do !

I've already stated I'll never get into Zeuhl.
Another band I can't get into is The Mars Volta. I tried, but it didn't work for me. Sorry....

I have a problem with Yes... my father is a jazz musician and an arranger, and one noon we were discussing music... he never really listens to anything anymore, except jazz and classical stations, but no bands... anyway he said that Yes are very academic and artsy.... but before I've been so oversuggested that their music was just empty.... so I started to download songs from the Yes Album.... I didn't like them very much, "Starship Trooper" has an interesting rhythm section and meter, but it drags a bit at the end; "I've Seen All Good People" is too poppy for my taste and the rest is almost the same.... then I listened to Close To The Edge (first album I'd heard with Wakeman) ad the chorus has some amazing vocal harmonies and there are good instrumental passages, but then in the middle section I wonder if they really were not just forcing and stretching the song so they could'd made their first epic, and I lose my interest.
I like the entire Free Hand by Gentle Giant and some songs on The Power and The Glory, but I fear I will not get used by any more of their material.... and as of Van Der Graaf, I was listening to killer and it was okay-ish... but Hammill's voice sounds like Syd Barrett... I just can't stand it... maybe it's because I've grown accustomed to Ian Anderson's deep voice, so even Peter Gabriel has lost his charm on me, even though I like classic Genesis. It's a pity, really
Prog metal is the one genre that I can't stand anymore.

I really can't stand Genesis for the most part, and people here will hate me because of that. I think they are really average at best. I've also never really cared for Floyd except WYWH, which is their only outstanding album.
I find VDGG, Gentle Giant, and other immensely more interesting and better than the qualities that everyone seems to find in Genesis.

I do respect Opeth as good Musicians and composers and the vocals don't even bother me, but they're too evil. I find that so low like I don't like music with curse words. It's too easy and I lose respect. I'm a Christian by the way.

I have problems with Genesis (mainly the quietude and Gabriel's voice) but I'm getting there...every day I like them more...I like Fish's Marillion so i don't understand, if the vocals are very close....
Agalloch...unless they start writing songs...
Fates Warning...I don't know why I have 4 albums, if I just can't tolerate earth's worst singer...I guess I trusted them, keep on trusting that someday alder would learn to sing or that matheos would realize what an a*****hole he has for a singer....

Marillion
Dream Theater
The Mars Volta (though I don't think I'd enjoy liking them..., so I'm not sad at all, except that I've now lost 20$ on them)
Frank Zappa
Can
King Crimson (I like their debut... but Red and Larks weren't at all impressive for me, I'll try again this weekend...)
Sigur Ros
Pendragon (though I haven't heard enough to know yet)
Kraftwerk (other than the best driving song ever, Autobahn)
Porcupine Tree
Well, I'd say that's plenty for now, I'm sure there will be others I will try and not like in the future...

Well, if you want to hear great things about them that may change your mind, you can PM me, as they are currently my favorite band.
