As a previous poster mentioned, LaBrie is generally very amazing and listenable on the side projects.  It's only occasionally with DT that I feel his voice is being misused.  I don't think replacing him would be the solution, then, as Mike and the boys would likely have the -next- guy sing in the same overly reaching way.

He actually had vocal lessons before Octavarium was released.

In fact he has even gotten better with time, his vocals on Octavarium are top notch.

I really enjoyed Octavarium and I thought it was due to the change LaBrie made. I didn't know what it was. However, when I listened to Score, I realized that it may have been the mix in the studio. But his style of singing on the album has a sleepy sound so maybe not.

Regardless, in my opinion, Octavarium is his best studio vocal performance to date, at least from where I sit.

i don't know if you know that guys but the rest of the band wasn't so satisfied with his late performances before Octavarium and Portnoy with LaBrie sat down and Mike told him if he didn't do sth he would be fired.. and James did: he gave his best studio performance in Octavarium...

I believe I have a problem with the fact Portnoy and Petrucci had to talk to him. His vocals weren't terrible. I think the best music is made by bands that don't set limitations on other members. I didn't realize that MP and JP were such nazis. Geez, that just ruins the music for me. Its like ripping out someone's soul.

You can not replace J. Labrie, if you will replace him then DT is dead... I know many better singers than Labrie but without him DT is not DT, that is a simple fact... this is really stupid topic.

It's a perfectly reasonable topic, and you're entitled to your opinion on it (which I happen to share).  Hope you enjoy the forums, but you certainly won't ingratiate yourself with the other members by attacking their threads in this manner.  Stern Smile

No replacing could be done here
LaBrie is the voice of Dream Theater and without him it wouldn't be Dream Theater.
A lot of people dislikes the voice of Geddy Lee but no one tries to put someone in his place

DT as a group is greater than the sum of its parts. Why consider change?

Pat: Thumbs Up Thank you for pointing that out on our behalf. We Mods can't be everywhere at once, unfortunately...Unhappy

As to Archivep: 'stupid' is an offensive word, and as such should not be used so lightly. If you don't like the topic, you've got the right not to post in the thread.

Le brie is best when sliced in half, liberally smeared with pesto, then heated, or heated & served with red pepper jelly on top.Big smile

I can't imagine a better vocalist for Dream Theater. I have never ever in my time listening to DT complained about his vocals. If he ever leaves they should just as well disband. Kevin Moore, Dominici and Sherinian were all replacable. I don't think any member of the current line-up is replaceable. Somebody bailing now - or being replaced - would really hit the band hard.

BTW Russel Allen fronting DT would definitely be interesting, but only for so long... He's much too European power metal/Dio-ish. It works for SX but DT is a whole other style. Maybe he could've fronted Images and Words era DT, but Russel Allen singing Never Enough? Or These Walls? NO NO NO!
What would Neil Young do?

Well the whole idea was to get an idea of who would be more appealing than LaBrie to certain people. I like LaBrie.

Anyone is replaceable. The sound may change and the band may crash and burn, but anyone is replaceable. Look at Yes. Different members, different sounds, and they still carried on. Actually, if I had the choice to replace any member in DT, it would be Rudess. Then again, Myung is so buried in the mix....
