Topic: Hi from a newbie but an oldie Posted: September 20 2006 at 15:59 |
Hi All,
Joined the forums today and just found the newbie intro forum. Just to say I discovered the site while surfing in search of info on PFM but have enjoyed browsing the site immensely.
Prog rock was my first love and one that I'm getting more and more into again. Specific likes in the genre (in no order of preference):
Genesis (Gabriel era) and associated spin-offs Yes (up to and including Topographic Oceans but not much beyond that really) PFM (first real band I ever saw on their Chocolate Kings tour). Live in the USA/Cook probably my favourite live album of all time, if not favourite album of all time. Kansas (when they were prog) Jethro Tull (until they started sounding like Dire Straits)
to name but a few off the top of my head.
Currently living in Surrey, UK and playing in a band for enjoyment after a 15 year pause where I didn't pick up the guitar at all. The prog influence is coming to the fore now as we get used to playing together more.
Currently waiting more PFM and other Italian Prog CD on import orders!

Welcome. As an oldie myself and a former professional rock
guitarist I think you'll find the reviews and opinions expressed on
this site to be refreshingly intelligent for the most part and a great
way to hear about and discover bands that you might not be aware
of. Enjoy.

Thanks to all for greetings. I'm enjoying the site and my credit card is already feeling the strain after discovering previously unknown PFM albums, Banco Del Mutuo Succorso, Mangala Vallis and now Proto Kaw.
Hell this is fun. Also got a Pallas CD on order. A mate of mine was on their road crew in the 80's and urged me to audition as their lead singer when their original one left. Believe me, the world is a safer place because I didn't.
Great site!
