A couple of years ago i couldn`t get into it too... now i can suggest two of a bands that i sympathize very much:
 
Collage and Quidam.... the second one with female vocals... im not an expert in the genre, but believe me , both are great bands....
 
and for me... i dont like Pendragon at all

Yes you started too high, Marillion and IQ are amongst the best you can find, but there are numerous bands that are alike, and if you want similar sounding bands that's not hard to do, if you however want something unique within the Neo-prog style, that's a bit harder to do.
 
Best of the Bunch IMO:
 
Pendragon : Window Of Life, Masquerade overture, Not Of This World,
Arena: Pride, The Visitor, Contagion.
Clepsydra: More Grains of Sand, Hologram
Collage: Moonshine
Saens: Prophet in a statistical World, Escaping from the hands of God
Satellite: A street between sunrise and sunset
Shadowland: Ring Of Roses
Aufklärung: de la tempesta
Fish: Vigil in a wilderness of mirrors, Raingods with zippo's
Twelfth Night: Fact and Fiction
Discipline: Unfolded like staircase
Jadis: More Than Meets the eye
Pallas: Beat The Drum
Landmarq: Solitary Witness
Shakary: Alya
 
I'd start with Aufklärung if I where you, for it has that typical itallian flavour added to there sympho sound, maybe Discipline will do also, more than the others it is inspired by Van Der Graaf Generator, which gives it some unique quality IMO. of course Arena and Pendragon needs to be listened too aswell.
 
another band that i like to mention is not regarded as neo-progressive, but I regard it as a neo-progressive band:
 
Echolyn: Mei and Suffocating the Bloom are both excellent, as is the rest of their material.

I can handle IQ without the vocalist.   He makes every song sound the same. Unhappy

I'm very much the same way. I liked Marillion and IQ a lot, but then there was a number of other neo-prog bands I didn't like. I did however enjoy these albums:

Arena: Contagion
Aufklarung: de la Tempesta
Satellite: A Street Between Sunrise and Sunset

Maybe that will help.

Try "Believe" by Pendragon, if you found Masquerade Overture 'not the thing for you' you will find some different sounds and structures on Believe, check out some of the samples on the website (www.pendragon.mu) I was (and still am) amazed by this album!

For other stuff, have you tried other Jadis? or Steve Thorne's debut?

Out of the Arena paddock, my favourite is definitely Immortal?........... but we all have our quirks, its about wether or not you feel it, this is music , not science!

Twelfth Night's "Fact and Fiction" and "Live at the Target" are fantastic examples of Neo Prog - even though both were released before it became recognised as a genre.

I would also include Genesis "Duke" as the earliest Neo-Prog album, even though it's a bit of a crossover in many ways. It's a fantastic album, if you don't mind good tunes!
The important thing is not to stop questioning.

I dont know, theres not a hell of a lot, if anything, on The Wall that I would consider Neo, not sure what you would call it though.

Here are some possibilities:
 
Arena:  The Visitor, Contagion
Pallas:  The Cross and The Crucible, The Dreams of Men
Shaun Guerin:  The Epic Quality of Life
Citizen Cain:  Somewhere But Yesterday 
Strangefish:  Fortune Telling
 
These albums are classed as either Neo or Symphonic here, but I think they are all on the boundaries of the two sub-genres.  Also, If you have only Dark Matter by IQ, you might pick up Ever, and/or Tales from the Lush Attic.  If you lean towards a more metal sound, Arena or Pallas should fit the bill, while still having some symphonic elements.  Shaun Guerin and Citizen Cain are more Genesis-like, and Strangefish is unique, perhaps trending toward the Spock's Beard sound.

Maybe, but classic prog isnt a genre, it covers Art, Symphonic and others.

I am so much obsessed with '70's prog (virtually of all kinds) that I can hardly find time to get into neo stuff..
Like lightbulb_son, however; I have a tendency towards those two bands anyway. I like Marillion (and absolutely Fish-era only) probably because they were among the first prog bands I started to listen...
about IQ, not so sure.... erm... maybe because they make so great musicLOL?
Listen to Turkish psych/prog; you won't regret:
Baris Manco,Erkin Koray,Cem Karaca,Mogollar,3 Hürel,Selda,Edip Akbayram,Fikret Kizilok,Ersen (and Dadaslar) (but stick with the '70's, and 'early 80's!)
