Topic: Amputechture! Posted: September 16 2006 at 15:09 |
So it has been released!
Absolutely amazing that manages to sound different from both Frances The Mute and De-loused. I really did not like it at first but after a few listens i could really appreciate what was going on! I think it is even more complex than their previous releases, especially Day Of The Baphomets was particullary complex and it is perhaps my most favourite track on the album! But altso the intro on Tetragrammaton is really amazing each time cedric comes in....just beautiful!
I also really like the chous on Vermicide and also Viscera Eyes is great and these songs are sort of "less-complex" and sound more like earlier material and is a nice relief from the more mightier songs like Meccaamputechture.
Vicarious Atonement shows a nice and hauting intro which stays in a realtively slow mood for the entire songs which is quite untraditional for Mars Volta, also Asilos Magdilene provides a nice breather from the more complex and heavy music. All in all El Ciervo Vulnerado is the only track that i don't find that interesting but still it has a nice way to end
Well, what do you others think about the record?

Great album. The only part of the album I don't like is the intro to Tetragrammaton. DOTB is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

It's wonderful. Especially Day of the Baphomets. The music fits the title and lyrics so incredibly well.

Didn't get it yet. There is an album released on that same exact date that I want first... Les Porches Live by Maneige.

Maybe a minute.
Compare that with all of De-Loused and a good chunk of FTM.

Annother 5 star album, though FTm is still better. Been listening to it for 3 days non stop. I might write another 4834290382 word review about it

You best beat the Octavarium guy. My opinion? Probably my favorite so far (although I haven't heard Deloused, only segments), but it's still not a masterpiece. Probably a 4.5 where FtM is a 4.

It''s taking a while to settle in, but now I'm really ejoying it. What a bizzare ending too. I would have expected them to end with a bang; not only was there no bang, but the song just surprisingly cuts off.

You probably realise Vicarious Atonement and El Ciervo Vulnerado are basically the same track.
Yes, The Day of the Baphomets is breathtaking from beginning to end. For the rest, I'm stickng to Frances for a slightly more varied musical speech. However, this album is wonderful as well.

Of their three albums I find it to be their best. Its the easieast to get into IMO, but its also the most consistent in the way the music moves throughout the album, and thankfully theyve decided against having long periouds of electronic nmoise again and added instrumentation to the, slightly shorter than FTM, noise sections. Best album I've released all year.

I like the album alot I didn't like it the first time I listened to it, but after the 3 I was hooked! I love Asilos Magdalena. The guitar, the lyrics wich by the way its narrated through the eyes of a vampire ("you promised me your blood", the darkness keeps me alive", "hell is the only truth"). Day of the Baphomets is my favourite song on the album at the momment and El ciervo vulnerado isn't my cup of tea. Lindsay did you figured out the story yet?
