I dunno. I said Syd 'n Keith Moon, and the die-hard Yes-head who wrote the liner notes to the Yes Album compared those drummers...
Actually, I just wanted to compliment you on your avatar, Secret Agent Man.

I agree on many of the names that have been uttered in here
but I have Emerson and ehmmm Manzarek to add to the long list ever since I am trying my luck with the piano and my songs involve keyboards and recorders and bells and weird sounds...totally not proffesional ... Haven't written any song in ages...I only write poetry and a bit of music... where is that smiley of shame?

I met Ray Manzerek one time...(he lives in my home town). Nice guy, definitely pretty bright. He signed my copy of his book and gave my friend some advice "lay off the crystal meth, and stick to the psychedelics, and you guys will be alright."
haha

My biggest hero in Prog must be Geddy Lee, for his superb basswork. He
remains my biggest influence (although my playing is nowhere near
clone-ish).

I suppose if you combined Opeth's acoustic work with the band Nile's mid-eastern/egyptian influence (yes, I realize they're not prog), you'd have a pretty good feel for my current playing style.
I also have to struggle not to completely rip off Ayreon and Genesis.

As long as you enjoy it, no need to shame smiley. Keyboards, Recorders, Bells and Weird sounds seems like a set to explore for hours.
