I'm not a native speaker, but I have near-native competence (I have two English-related degrees). I lived in Finland for almost six years, otherwise I've always lived in Italy.

Back IT, in the Prog Polls section there is an ongoing debate on whether the Italian prog movement of the Seventies should have its own subgenre. I opened the poll myself, not out of patriotic pride, but rather on the basis of the huge popularity of such bands and artists with people from completely different backgrounds. It does seem that Italian prog has some sort of appeal on listeners from all over the world... which in a way is flattering, seen as Italy has always boasted of a rich musical heritage.
