But a lot of people have had some doubts as a result of his music and usual antics. There have even been stories of him being seen snorting and even injecting!

Personally I believe it. His music was just way too sophisticated and complex for an average stoner to compose. Not to mention how well he took care of his family and brought up his kids. And one thing Frank was not was a phoney. Pretentiousness was an absolute no-no in his world. What say you?

Zappa wrote in his autobiography that througout the sixties he tried pot appox. 10 times and that he didn't like it because it made him sleepy. He said if he would have liked it, he would have continued to smoke it, because he liked to smoke. Cigarettes to him, he said, were like food.

That seems like an unfair sterotype to me.

It doesn't help.

I believe that perticular song was about a band member. Which one I don't know without looking it up.

Zappa was plain weird a diabolically genius. Smoking marihuana would probably disturbed his composition work, so I guess "drug free" it is; if he says so.

Zappa was not always drug-free.  He dabbled in more than just marijuana, but stopped doing all drugs fairly early.  He certainly did not stop prior to beginning recording in 1966, and likely continued until at least the early 70s.  Why he would lie about it is his own business.

Peace.

Neither does masturbation. So should we all stop that too? Wink

I think similar claims have been made by Patton (or for him), and I believe both. To me, that certain kind of madness that they orchestrate can only come from a calculated, well thought out person, which is marred by drug use

Well Patton only plays non-smoking gigs to preserve his voice, so I doubt he's smoking anything else, at least, in his spare time.

did not read the thread (no time).

Zappa's music certainly sound like he was on drugs.

Most likely he got high on air and life.

But the man did smoke ciggies, drink coffee (both drugs)
let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,

rather than un-sheath our sword

No no, I believe Zappa. I dont think he would lie, and like many have said  why would he? What would be the point of lying?

if you ever did LSD and (not at the same time) and watched 200 Motels, you would know the answer, NO BRAINER!

His whole band was on acid in the 60's. Heroin I would think was Frank's baby, he finished the acid experiment early on.

Most likely- he probably didn't need them. I heard his dad was like a scientist and Frank would play with mercury and other dangerous chemicals when it was considered okay to do so. That kind of exposure would mess anybody up for a lifetime. Wacko

I like FZ, so I'm going to go with the drug free option.

I guess the only people that really know are his friends and family..

No.

That being said, can we still speculate? I didn't hear of any rules that we couldn't discuss things that don't matter.
Go and listen to my music.
