Topic: Your Prog Rock Heroes Posted: September 02 2006 at 04:25 |
I'm not exactly Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond was my reply to someone when they asked to hear a song I penned (went right over his head too, but I found it funny at least). But, it got me to thinking, what progger do I share the most with?
Considering that my "songs" are musings of mighty medieval chords and psydo-folk/psychadelic lyrics all set to a (classical) guitar, played solo in a gallery (in my case, a chapel on weekdays (nice accoustics that)), I seem to be most like our dear departed dead Pink Floyd dude--Syd Barrett--a half crazed loner with a guitar. Not a bad lot to be lumped in with, I reckon.
You?

Whether my stuff reflects that I don't know.

I like King Crimson a lot.
I especially like Adrian Belew for some reason.

Damn I got lots. Right now my prog rock 'hero' would have to be Steven Wilson, he's a genius pure and simple.

The summer had inhaled
And held its breath too long
The winter looked the same
As if it had never gone
And through an open window,
Where no curtain hung,
I saw you, I saw you
Coming back to me.

I consider the Who art rockers at least, and I admit that I seem to share some common ground with Keith Moon...but that's mainly because I too find throwing random crap out the window extrememly funny. Heh.

SInging style: Peter Hammill. To a lesser extent: Robert Calvert, a very underrated singer and lyricist. And my style of drumming was mostly influenced by the person in my signature pic (the pic is from the time he played with Brand X, by the way. And no, it is not Phil Collins). The drumkit he is playing in the pic once belonged to Ginger Baker.
