I can't agree. I think music and lyrics go together quite well.
In my opinion LITTLE TRAGEDIES is the best prog band appeared in Russia in the last 20 years.
Singing style is close to traditions of Russian bards. Gennady Ilyin is not a great vocalist, but he has his own, instantly recognizable, voice. For me it is much better than countless technically good, but faceless singers.
And in case of LITTLE TRAGEDIES lyrics are important, while listening to their albums you have a lot to think about.
Those who are interested can listen online (stream) their 2000 album "Porcelain Pavilion" here: http://www.russiandvd.com/store/product.asp?sku=36254. It represents the band's style well. Edited by NotAProghead - July 11 2006 at 00:13 |

Actually all you said above is true. I only disagree with the first line. IMO instrumental parts and vocal melodies are not matching at all. Singing style of Russian bards (which I love when sang by Russian bards) does not go together with powerful Symphonic Prog the band is playing. And on the other hand, poetry by Nikolay Gumilev does not require musical surrounding of this kind to remain important, thoughtful, beautiful and great.

MELNITSA (www.melnitsa.net) - the leading Russian Folk-Rock band, having a cello, flute, acoustic guitars and even harp in its line-up(as well as native Russian musical instruments)!!! Can be compared to JETHRO TULL(but without any bluesy influences) and RENAISSANCE(mainly because of touching female vocals),but very original and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
