At the moment, I'd have to say River of Life, but this could always change.

"Il Banchetto," beautiful mid instrumental section. (At the moment).

If you love River of Life that much, just listen to Appena Un Po' which is their own original version of this song when they first performed it in italian. I personally prefer that one.

RIP in bossa nova heaven.

There are many great PFM songs to choose from, but for me it's the original studio version of Dove Quando, with its gorgeous symphonic mellotron melody, and Mauro Pagani's mesmerizing, Ian McDonald like flute. This is classic symphonic prog, it doesn't get much better than this.

Dove Quando... I & II.
Over land and under ashes
In the sunlight, see - it flashes
Find a fly and eat his eye
But don't believe in me
Don't believe in me
Don't believe in me

Impressioni di settembre, with Dove Quando and Per Un Amico as runners-up
"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

Appena Un Po I'd say... too many runners up to list. All-'round awesomeness.

I'd choose L'Isola Di Niente, but Il Banchetto comes close behind.

"L'Isola Di Niente" still remains my favourite song --> great choir, guitars, mysterious  atmosphere...

Theres something about the transition at about 2:35 in Appena un Po' that never sits well with me, i think it is very out of place.

They go from peaceful flute, nice medievil sounding stuff to this basically rocking guitar sound, a bit too much too fast for me.  Never understood the love for that.

I do enjoy the song thought, not quite as good an album as Storia.

I agree wholeheartedly  River of Life is plain sumptuous with 2 major "moments of utter genius" 1- when the drums kick in and when the main synth-mellotron melody kicks in- Goosebumps then, now and in between. Clap

I must agree wholeheartedly, River of Life contains 2 absolutely brilliant
moments of utter musical genius, first when DiCioccio enters the fray a la Bonham on Stairway to Heaven and then when the mad violin introduces the main symphonic melody led by synth and the tron . ThomasClapClapClap
