Topic: ... and when you dusted off your fave dis Posted: August 15 2006 at 21:12 |
I've had Marillion's Brave on the shelf for a long, long time (well, long for me). I found myself listening to it too much, and was running the risk of lessening it's meaning for me.
Well, it's been an el crappola of a week. Not bad, but just really busy with a project for the chairman of my company. It's a fun project, but a white knuckler, nonetheless. Anyway, I decided to bring up Brave on iTunes and cranked that mother for 76 minutes.
My question is to those how responded to my earlier post about shelving your favorite disc. How did it feel when you re-visited your old friend? Today, listening to Brave after about 2 or 3 months was good; however, wish that I had reserved that for the car. I can really get into music when I'm by myself. Currently, disc 1 of Marbles is in there, so I'd be hard pressed to take that beauty out.

RushFan, the same thing happened when I bought Grace Under Pressure a few years ago. I literally hadn't heard it in close to 20 years (I had it on vinyl, but got rid of those antiques years ago...never replaced it on CD). I liked it OK back in the day, but was such a departure.
When I picked up the remastered CD, I heard it with brand new ears. Now, P/G is one of my favorites. Same thing happened with Power Windows. That's always been a favorite; but, I appreciate it so much more now. The same goes for Counterparts.

Good one. A few months ago, I dusted that one off as well. It had been at least five years.
A couple of weeks ago I dusted off "Trick of the Tail." I think it's easy to forget how good it really is.

Recently gave Images and Words and Awake another listen in what seems like years (probably 9-12 months) and I really enjoyed them both, a lot more than I remember, in fact.

I dusted off Rage Against the Machine's debut album yesterday. I hadn't listened to it for six months. It's still as great.

Could we stick to prog albums (listed on the site) if the thread is in this section please. By all means start a similar thread in the non-prog section.
Cheers

thanks for suggesting "the queen is dead" by the smiths – it was an amazing album 20 years ago and i trust that it still is – i'll have a listen tonight.

Don't see the word prog in the title, Bob. Where the topic started placed the thread is rather his issue.

It's a bit tough to decide where the thread belongs when there is no criteria to whether or not it is progressive oriented or not. Some may post progressive rock albums and some may not, so the correct placement of this thread could be put into consideration as it could fit in both areas of the forum. Just a thought, though.

My fave is MARILLION's debut - "Script".I listen to it very rarely - I don't want its magic to disappear!!!I listen to it every 1th of August(this is the day I've bought it). This time everything was on its place - I cried to Script's ending, danced to Garden Party, played the mid-solo in Chelsea Monday with Steve and chanted the prayer part in Forgotten Sons with Fish. Then I watched Incubus from "Live at Loreley" and gone mad.But I'm already OK...

I just dusted off My Arms Your Hearse after six months without a listen, and I enjoyed it even more.

I had another listen to Opeth - Still Life... But it wasn't as good as when I first heard it. But I can still get into it.
On a side note today I saw Marillion's Brave for $5NZD. And I didn't buy it. Fascinating story.

I just listened to Renaissance's Scheherazade after too long of a hiatus and was once again, completely blown away. Every time I listen to it I say to myself that I have to listen to their music more often but I just don't since I try not to ruin the perfect beauty of such wonderful music.

I just dusted off my vinyl copy of "Giant For A Day" by one of my faves, Gentle Giant about a week ago........it still sucks. No matter how hard I try to like that record, it just never seems to happen for me.
So I dusted off "Octopus". Glad I did.

I played Muse- Absolution for the first time in about 2 years about a month ago. In that time I've discovered prog and now when I went back to it I really apreciated how creative they were on that album. The fact that it really rocks as well helps.

Today is the day I dusted off the Audioslave's debut album. This album rocks from start to finish, and the song 'Like a stone' is perfect and emotionally superfull.
