Seconded. That review is a waste of space.

I agree, it just talks of Gensis and how band the secret world is.

No quibble with the rating, and the reviewer does engage in some discussion about the music, but overall it seems to be more about how he prefers other bands, and the last couple of paragraphs he seems more concerned with asserting his superior taste and judgement:

I think a lot of proggers like these guys because they haven't heard anything of the progressive/indie-rock explosion of the 1990s. Even obvious band likes Ruins or Don Caballero are far more intersting than Guapo. The only way I can see anyone being impressed by this band is if they only listened to 70's prog and were ignorant of the progressive-influenced independent rock bands of the 90's (I'm NOT talking about Death Cab for Cutie).

I'm not quite sure how Guapo have connected with progressive fans, while bands like Don Cab, Ruins, and the Flying Luttenbachers tend to appeal to independent rock fans. Maybe it is a label oriented thing, or maybe a lot of progressive rock fans find virtue in tedium. My suggestion is to ignore what record label they are on (don't get me wrong, Cuneiform is great) and actually listen to the music. This one is a snoozer...

I don't think that the review or rating should be deleted, but maybe some editing could be suggested.

I saw this too, Chris and thought of you!

I really want to tell him to listen to Black Oni (not that I've heard any Guapo yet myself, but I've read that this album is the better of the two).

But yes, it's the way he insults most proggers intelligence, by saying that we don't know about other apparently progressive/indie-rock bands of the 1990s...

WATERS, ROGER — Radio K.A.O.S.
Review by Celestial voice (Derek jennings)

5 stars Roger waters is a genius there is no other artist that can even come close to being as creative as him. Radio kaos is a superb album and i dont care what anybody says, to me it doesnt even sound like its from the 80s, if i were to guess i couldnt even tell you. roger waters is the most amazing and creative singer song writer ive ever heard bar none.

All of us have favorite artists /bands / idols... but for most that we love them, we have to be objective when reviewing an album ... seems like Celestial Voice loves Roger (i do) but the review doesn`t say anything  but Roger is a genius etc.. where`s the ALBUM review?

VANGELIS — Invisible Connections

Review by goyobarrios

3 stars My explanation is very simple. This record is not for regular listening, very near to John Cage´s works (minimal and empty of all kind of tune) but, if you like Blade Runner, this album is the most aprox. of all.

A request. When posting Inappropriate reviews, could you include the "permanent link" please (or the review number). It makes them easier to locate.

Thanks.

If Celestial Voice had explained the motive of its first assertion in the context of the album would have written an excellent review. Other motive to eliminate this type of reviews!!!

Just curious, if someone gives an album 1 star in a review they're basically saying there is nothing enjoyable and/or redeemable about the album.  I was looking at the Tales from Topog Oceans reviews by Yes, when I save two reviews one by Erik Neeut-something rather and Opethguitarist, they both gave the album 1 star then mention how they enjoy some of it, Erik says he enjoys side 1 of it. To me you can't give an album 1 star if you like some of it thats why there is 2 stars for that. Anyway correct me if I am wrong about the definition of 1 star reviews.
To me then 1 stars are more just reactions to the five stars to bring the album down then to give an objective score.
Just curious, correct me if I'm wrong.Smile

The definition of 1 star is a generalization. Ultimately 1 star is a subjective rating made by a person. True, it would have to convince that the album is not very good, but in what proportions (from "I enjoy some-but generally it's a stinker" to "I think this album's NOTHING! PURE NOTHING!" and so...), that's up to the reviewer.

In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with the specified reviews:

Erik talks of Tales as one of his biggest disillusions. he says he enjoy Wakeman's solo end in side 1, not side 1! Overall, he justifies well-enough his discontent regarding something that, for him, doesn't have the Yes Magic.

Opeth's 1 stars or low characterization have been a recent thing in this topic to complain about, still he also nothing to be judged about (even more than Erik!). In fact, he's even more virulent about the huge deficit of the album. Thus with a prevalent use of negative reflections, he's clear in every aspect.

So I correct you, cheesecake, the reviews from Erik and Opeth regarding Tales Of Topographic Oceans are fine, with a considerate subjective rating that gets the explanation necesarry.

It's a fair point CCM, but we have to assume that the rating people have given an album reflects their overall feeling about it. There have been the occasional misconceptions, such as the guy who through 1 star meant it was number one, i.e. the best.

If you think someone's rating is at odds with their review, you could always drop them a friendly PM.

Looks like something to get rid off - and direct the author to the forum for requesting whether DVD material is also available on CD...

A decent review - but I wouldn't mind getting rid of the last sentence:

"Buy it as a fan, if not, download / check the songs i quote."

Just in view of all the actions taken against downloading - to which I agree to the extend that it doesn't only hurt the record companies but also the artists. Not something PA should be promoting I guess.

Angelo

N.B. don't want to put extra load on our moderators by sending in two items within an hour of each other - this is just one of these nights that I spent reading reviews while listening to the music at the same time.

True - although the phrasing suggests otherwise (at least for me, not being a native speaker). You decide, I'm only expressing my impression here.

GENESIS — The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
Review by celtae_druwid

5 stars Not posting this topic to speak well about the Genesis album. But to show my indignation, this used to be a great site, without stupid spam´s propaganda spread over the page. This message is written specially to the site owner, nobody needs spam propaganda, it´s useless, no one, anymore, believe on spam. Please remove it, thanks for the attention.
